dan hellie is in our newsroom. >> reporter: he will be out four to six weeks with a groin injury. he had already ruled hielf out of that packer's game. but an mri showed it was worse than expected. they said he has a third degree separation of his left groin. he is coming off his best game of the series he turned the three paes. he got hurt in the third quarter and tried to play through the injury to no avail. overall, this haseen a very disappointing season for portis. he's been will splitting carries. for the first time in his careerering it wasn't primary ball carrier for the redskins. here is the head coach on ct diagnosis. >> a temporary setback. they happen during the seas. he will get a lot of rehab here. hopefully it will be four weeks rather than six weeks but a third degree separation is off the bone. so that's quite soreight now. he was tough enough to go back in and give us everything he had. it's disappointing, working so hard and playing so well that he has that setback. he'll work hard and hopefully come back in the near future. >> off the bone does not sound good.
