moments ago we learned that hedge fund heavy weight dan lowe just bought over 2 million shares of the social giant. you lost money and you want to bet how can you do that for less? dan has some ideas. >> this is one that's really interesting. obviously a pretty controversial name on valuation. it's important to remember, we talked about this a number of times since the ipo and in the leadup to it. this is a pretty scarce property as you think about the scale in which they happen and the niche audience they have. you saw that gap there. went down 21% following that disappointing quarter. i don't think what they reported was too good for what they reported. ipo was priced as high as 17 bucks. it was trading at 23, 24 prior to the results. you have the big gap. one of the things that's interesting, two of the main -- really interesting uses for options in my opinion is to be there at yield by selling a call against the long stock position or add leverage to an existing long stock position and a strategy that i want to detail right here. these are pretty safe trades as you think about the

lows. what's behind stocks and bonds rallying together? what does it mean for the market? dan? >> listen, obviously u.s. equities are some of the strongest around the globe here. they've kept that bid, they've broken out to new all-time highs. the fact that bonds are rallying now says something a little differently. you take a look at the performance of the s&p under the hood some of the best-performing sectors are pretty defensive. for all intents and purposes the performance of utilities, health care, consumer staples, it doesn't exactly speak to some reflation trade. obviously some of those are due to be bond proxies also. to me, just because the s&p has made 19 or 20 new highs this year, more than they made all of last year, doesn't exactly speak to a particularly healthy thing, especially when you overlay the fact that persistent low beyond yields the last couple years have been something that equity investors have been worried about for all intents and purposes. >> at the same time low bond yields are supporters of high innovations so there's two sides to this. >> it help

this very low level of volatility actually implies that you do not want to be getting overly bearish. i agree with danriencing a 5% to 10% decline at any time, but based on the fact that we do not see a recession around the corner, we don't think a bear market is in the calling, and we don't think a 10 plus percent decline is around the corner either. i would basically say if we end up with some sort of digestion of recent gains, i would use that as a buying opportunity. david: ultimately as you just suggested a few minutes ago, it is about the earnings in the project earnings for these companies. that is what really drives the stock prices. we have seen some remarkable increases in earnings in the u.s. and even more remarkable in europe. what are the factors, and what do they tell us about whether that can resist the, that growth rate? sam: just to put all that into perspective, we started the corner expecting to see a 9.9% gain in operating results. we are now expected to see a 14.9% with 90% of the countries reporting by the end of this week. that five percentage point increase is better than the a
