we go to dan in washington now with more. hi, dan. >> hi, shep. i know that smoke is hard to see behind me. that's good news. yesterday when we were here there were two huge plumes of smoke and the 900 plus firefighters are getting a handle on this fire. they made a lot of progress and they hope to have 50% containment by tonight. still there are 500 homes that remain evacuated and about 70 that were destroyed in the early days of the fire. the fire was accidentally set by a department of transportation contractor who was doing some work on a bridge. from there it raced 14 miles in 2.5 hours and pushed by 30 mile-an-hour winds. a local commissioner calls it a fire of historical proportion and while no human life is lost, some ranchers have lost their livlihood [no audio] >> well, it sounds like we lost our feed from dan springer. some of the ranchers have lost everything. the main concern is theon is lis away, but a reprieve today with the higher humidity and the lower winds of the the hope is for all of the good folks in the american west to get
