dan riskin thank you for being here. >> thank you for having me. >> we found this book gross and naturaliful picture. it's those ugly things that are out there that really engage me and get me excited in. it's when you look at the ugly things you see some of the most beautiful parts of nature. >> what are the dirty secrets of vampire bats? >> well my page was on how they move on the ground. most people they like to keep bats. for me vampire bats were neat. i looked at how they crawl, i found out they have a running gait that no other bat has. the light went off for me. if you look at the dirty places you might find beautiful, beautiful things. this book expands beyond the bat. all of the things of nature that i found was great and disgusting. >> he admits he has that special with bats so much so that this wife took four hours to lay on the ground. i don't get it. >> there's an animal act of kindness you call it -- who will literally die for sex? >> they're super cute. what's incredible the males are heros in bed. incredible. they can last during copulation until death. >> what's good abo

our next guest has written a book, called mother nature is trying to kill you, dan riskin is that fascinating and fascinated author. the host of monsters inside me on animal lan it. great to have you. thanks. >> you start with a really disgusting thing, i don't want to get into it. how about the book, how is mother nature trying to kill me? >> everybody has this idea that it's a loving kind thing that is balanced and natural if things are natural they must be good for you. that's kind of true sort of some ways but really on the whole mother nature is looking out for itself, you're made of calories, really, and there are predators at a would love to take you apart. >> that's a wonderful thought. >> it's the reason that breaking bad is something more fun to watch than cinderella, because they have a dark side, when you look at these stories that you'd never get to otherwise that are absolutely the best parts. >> you break up the book into different chapters following the seven deadly sins. and your main premise is what characterizes animal is a scrooge-like selfishness. >> i equate the greed to
