dan springer joins us now from seattle. dan? >> reporter: hi, gillian.most confirmed cases of coronavirus in the country with 102, and nearly all of the deaths and the focus continues to be on a nursing home just north of seattle. the life care center of kirkland had 120 residents a week ago. since then 13 have died and 40 others have been taken to the hospital with symptoms. one visitors has died from the virus and 70 of the 180 employees are showing possible signs of the virus. also remaining residents, a handful have symptoms. shockingly, everyone in the facility is just now getting tested as the first batch of test kits a arrived on thursday. and the nursing home finally held a news conference yesterday. >> we've had patients who, within an hour's time, show no symptoms to going to acute symptoms and being transferred to the hospital. we've had patients die relatively quickly under those circumstances. >> reporter: a couple dozen paramedics who responded to the facility have been in quarantine for the last week, and now they're being moved to a motel

dan springer in seattle has the very latest on that. hey there. >> the west coast continues to be ahead of the country in terms of cases and measures to slow the spread of coronavirus. much of the focus has been on the grand princess cruise ship. we know that the plan for the 3500 people on board. the ship will dock and open monday. the 21 people tested positive will go to hospitals. california residents will take to travis air force base or miramar. the rest of the passenger wills go to military base in texas or georgia for those two weeks and the crew will then go back out to sea and be quarantined for the same period. the trump administration has taken criticism for not getting passengers off the ship sooner but officials insist they are making it happen as soon as possible. >> i recommended to get people off the ship. we don't want to see repeat that we saw at diamond princess. i feel strongly of getting them off there and getting them under appropriate quarantine and/or care for those who are sick. >> news better for passengers on

we want to bring in dan springer who has been paying attention to this. this news just broke in the last hour. has to be troubling after there's been five confirmed deaths in that state. >> a sad development but not unexpected with the belief now that this virus has been percolating and spreading through the community ever since we had the first case north of king county in seattle. we had that case six weeks ago where a man came back from wuhan, china. they thought they had him isolated. he got better and released from the hospital. now they have tied a strain of that virus to another case of a teenager that was at jackson high school. he was -- had the same strain. now they believe this has been going through the community for six weeks. so now we have 14 cases in washington state and five of them have died here in king county. so they have declared an emergency here so they can free up more resources. the state has declare add state of emergency. so we'll see where it goes. they're expecting more cases as they test more for this. back to you. >> dana:

fox news's dan springer is in seattle washington, a state where all u.s. coronavirus fatalities have happened so far. dan? reporter: melissa, this area really has been hit hard. the death toll jumped significantly today. there are now as you mentioned six deaths. keeping the way this virus has gone really worldwide, the people who have died all had underlying health issues at least those here in king county and of the six, five of the six were elderly in their 70s or in their 80s. we know four of the people, at least four came from a single nursing home. that facility, life care of kirkland is a quarantine zone with a team from the cdc monitoring as many as 50 residents and staff with some flu-like symptoms. today the king county, washington executive declared a state of emergency which frees up money to try to contain the spread. >> we have moved to a new stage in the fight to contain, mitigate and manage the outbreak. this morn we are in final negotiations to purchase a motel which we can, in which we can place patients who are in need of isolation and a

dan springer is live in kirkland, washington outside the hospital where two coronavirus victims have died. >> both of those patients who died were residents of a nearby nursing home where six coronavirus cases have been confirmed. they all tested positive in the last couple days. it is important to note that the people who died also had underlying health conditions. but there is growing concern this virus has been spreading through the community for about the last six weeks ever since the first known case in the u.s. in a nearby county. dozens of residents and staff members have some flu like symptoms from this facility. six cdc workers are on site. close to 50 paramedics, police officers and nursing students who came to the facilities over the last week are being quarantined at their homes. >> i'm very concerned about the nursing home outbreak. that's a place where you can find viruses have ample opportunity to spread and because of the people that live at those types of facility, elderly and immunocompromised and other medical conditions. hard to contain and hard to deal with the s
