dan springer has the latest on the investigation. nationwide manhunt, ending with an hours long standoff in southwest oregon early wednesday morning. police say this man, 36 year old benjamin foster was found tuesday night holed up in the city of grants pass oregon after he was spotted walking his dog in the neighborhood following a standoff that lasted several hours. officers were able to take him into custody, but he later died of a self inflicted gunshot wound. benjamin foster the man we've been looking forward for the last several days. is no longer a threat to the community. police have been hunting for foster since last week after he allegedly tortured a woman he was holding captive. that victim is still in critical condition. she was found unconscious and near death in grants pass, and on tuesday night they located foster at the home where the woman was found, eventually firing bullets and tear gas into the house as they attempted to force him outside. he was barricaded really deep. into a space underneath. the house officials

dan springer has more on these disturbing reports about his behavior leading up to his termination. knew about bryan coal berger's performance at the university of washington was a tough grader. "the new york times" is now reporting he was fired from that job in december not long before he was arrested and charged with the murders of those four university of idaho students. the times got a copy of the termination letter sent to coal berger saying he was being let go for failing to meet the norms of professional behavior in the way he interacted with the faculty. he reportedly had two altercations with the professor he was a t.a. for. the first one way back in september when he was still new to the university and the ph.d. program there. he was also investigated for inappropriate conduct with some female students, one alleged he followed her to her car and made her feel uncomfortable. he was cleared of any wrongdoing in that case. the university was so concerned about his behavior they had a meeting with him on november 2, '11 days later four university of idaho students were murdered
