dan thorn was there. he joins us live now with more on what the chief jaime knocks hopes to accomplish in his new job >> well, pam and ken chief knox has been on the job just over a month. he comes to walnut creek after serving with the san leandro police department. tonight's meet and greet was all about hearing thoughts and concerns from residents as well as sharing his thoughts on the future of the police department in terms of how they're going to approach recent crime and also building community connections. there's a new top cop in walnut creek chief jaime knox has been on the job for just 6 weeks and the city is already keeping him busy. >> recent nightlife related crimes such as the shooting downtown have forced his department to beef up patrols and he wants residents to know that safety is a top priority some to be said about the high visibility policing and we want our residents to feel safe. but we also want people to know that are coming into the city from the outside that we're not going to t

dan thorn kron 4 news. meantime, oakland police chief leronne armstrong is boosting patrols this weekend amid a recent spike in violence there. police have reported 6 homicides in just the last 5 days. >> most recently a hayward man was shot and killed thursday afternoon outside the safe land supermarket in east oakland chief armstrong says he will be additional officers on oakland's streets all weekend long. specifically to address violent crimes. >> san jose police have arrested 3 men accused of stealing dozens of purses across the bay area over the past year. investigators say 23 year-old urging banks, 24 year-old anthony robinson. and 27 year-old cameron movie specifically targeted asian women on the assumption that they were carrying more cash. the santa clara county district attorney has added hate crime enhancements to their charges. 2 of the men were arrested last friday during which police say robinson tried to flee the scene and crashed into a car severely injuring a 2 year-old. >> happening now,
