. >> i'm noelle bellow and i'm dan thorn. the fire at sending power plant broke out earlier this evening in part of highway one in monterrey is right now closed and officials are telling people to stay indoors as far as santa cruz from 4. sarah stinson has the very latest from moss landing. >> you can still see that orange glow and plume of smoke coming from the vistra power plant here in moss landing. although the fire's been burning for hours, is still going and it appears to be contained to the plant. spokesperson for vistra tells us the fire sparked afternoon in an area of the plant where lithium-ion batteries are stored. employees called the north monterey county fire district and safely evacuated. we're not seeing the fire crews out here with their ladder trucks scorching it with water. that would be dangerous to do with an electrical fire because it could cause a serious electrical shock. it appears they're letting the fire burn out on its own, although we can't see over the wall there. >> there is an evacuation order

i'm dan thorn and i'm noelle bellow. our breaking news coverage continues out of los angeles county tonight where multiple fires are tearing through neighborhoods. >> forcing at thousands of people to evacuate. take a look at this. this is video from our sister station in los angeles, ktla. it shows a house in studio city on fire and there it is collapsing. there. fire officials say this home likely caught fire because of embers from the sun set fire, which has been burning in the hollywood hills. the sunset fire is the 6th major fire to burn across la county over the last 48 hours that erupted just before 6 o'clock tonight south of sunset boulevard north of sunset boulevard and has burned about 19 acres near the hollywood walk of fame and other iconic landmarks. of course it is at 0% containment tonight. this new fire adding to the chaos in la county that fire crews are having to deal with there battling the massive palisades fire as well. yeah. it's now been dubbed the most destructive fire in los angeles county histor

i'm dan thorn that south bay community heartbroken tonight after 3 teens lose their lives in a crash. we first told you about this tragedy last night and have since learned the teens killed high school students and there is a 14 again currently in critical condition. kron four's. sara stinson has tonight's top story from gilroy. >> there's a growing memorial at the crash site here on shore road. people have dropped off flowers and candles. we spoke with friends of the teenagers who say they stopped by to pay their respects. >> and the whole life ahead of gone too soon. 3 teenage boys died in a crash in gilroy tuesday night. it happened just before 7 on shore road. when i heard the news saying it kind of hurt because at first i was like, oh, castor texting him. who was no response? the teens killed when to host or high school. the san benito county sheriff identified the teens as 17 year-old ons o 17 year-old victor liu han and 18 year-old brandon. all our cone. fellow students stopped by a memorial at the crash scene wednesday saying they cannot believe their friends are gone. i was j

i'm dan thorn. i'm noelle bellow. tonight marks one week since 2 los angeles communities were devastated by wildfires. at least 25 people have been killed in the pacific palisades and altadena fires. investigators still trying to determine the cause of both of those fires for the palisades. some are pointing to a fire that had started by fireworks on new year's eve. residents believe those flames were put out and may have somehow reignited a week later, palisades fire has burned nearly 24,000 acres. it is 18% contained tonight. and here's a look at what's left of altadena after the eaton fire had then. >> moving through that area and the death toll was updated from 16 to 17 earlier this evening. at least 7,000 structures and homes have been destroyed. it's now 35% contained and burned more than 14,000 acres for lawsuits have been filed against southern california edison, accusing the power utility company of sparking the eaton fire. burning altadena lawyers for homeowners in that area who had to evacuate or lost their
