(laughter) i was talking about congress' on going benghazi freakout and i happened to cite a university of maryland study that, in the bush years, u.s. diplomatic targets were attacked 54 times with 13 american deaths.

dan? >> well, i mean, gwen, there are a lot of angles from which you can look at this i.r.s. scandal, but that's clearly one of them. even before this we know that the trust in government was at a low ebb. the pew research center did a survey a month ago that -- that said the trust in government was at or close to its historic lows. that was all before this. i had a conversation with president-elect obama in december 2008. and one of the things i asked him was, in essence, do you think your election meant there say greater receptivity to bigger government and more activist government? he said at the time i don't think it's a question the of bigger or smaller government. i think there is skepticism of government that's baked into the system since ronald reagan on -- or before. it's a question of smarter government. if you look at things today i think you have to say he's failed that test. you have the i.r.s., the defense department under scrutiny because of sexual assaults they've not been able to bring under control, the benghazi matter and the lax security. you are you are -

dan? >> well, i think that's right. i think in some way was we have seen since the election is a two-prong strategy which is slightly different than what he did in 2011. i think there is still an effort working the inside. and as glenn says mostly through the senate, hoping to break through with some republican senators who are certainly frustrated by the inability of congress to do some things. but there is a more aggressive outside strategy that he has employed since the election. and in a sense you could say there is a legislative strategy of working the inside. and there is a political strategy on the outside which in a sense is aimed at, if we don't get those things we are still going to benefit politically, perhaps in 2014. >> woodruff: so when he say, i mean at one point, he said i can't force republicans to embrace common sense solutions. he said they are going to have to say we want to do the right thing. i mean should he be more talented in some way in getting congress to do what he wants? >> i mean that isn't

dan? >> well, shep, those who know why it was postponed until next wednesday are not saying a word. everything got sealed. there is plenty of speculation it may somehow be connected to that extraordinary interview that jodi arias gave. imagine, imagine being her lawyer and seeing that thing pop up on tv. just hours after her conviction. we know that she is on suicide watch, so it's possible she is not stable enough to be in court today. but there is also the question about defending your client against the death penalty when she says she wants to die and that tape can be used and can be seen by the jury. so, it's another delay for the victim's family which appears united in their desire to see areas pay with their life. they said through an attorney yesterday that they plan on filing a wrongful death civil suit in the near future. that would allow them to get any money jodi arias may earn in the future due to her note notoriety. arizona has the son of sam law which would prevent her from a book or movie in the case. she could make money from selling other things. of course they have

dan? >> well, listen, the market has last momentum. so in the last week we had that gap up, that day after the fed. there was a lost fedspeak last week, i think it was the 22nd. the gap up, the reversal. and now it's kind of finding its way here and looks to me like it's lost momentum. we've seen the moves you that mentioned today are kind of eye-popping here in the u.s. tim flagged a lot of this. the mother's index in japan. it start over there. it's worked over here. we're seeing volatility in bonds and equities and currencies and commodities. so to me i think as b.k. just said we might have put a near-term top in. >> but just as euphoric as all that can be, you get a couple down days and everybody starts to lose their mind. i agree. today was important to me because teactually we started t see a crack in the high yield. we started to see fixed income credit blow out. periphery in europe, which is more concerning to me. we stopped talking about europe for a month and a half and in fact italy's gone from 3.80 to 4.20 on the ten-year.

dan? >> well, good morning, zoraida. the main questions today, how exactly did that fire start? it seems to have broken out in the back of the limousine, and why wasn't everyone able to escape? and adding to this tragedy, the group was literally just minutes away from the hotel where they were planning to celebrate an upcoming wedding. it was supposed to be a night of celebration. a bachelorette party near san francisco for a woman getting married next month in the philippines. but as they crossed the san mateo bridge in a stretch limo saturday night they noticed smoke. >> we got calls of smoke coming from the limousine. the limousine pulled over, and then all of a sudden it became engulfed in flames. >> reporter: there were ten people in the limo, including the driver. he, and four women in the party escaped. five others, including the bride-to-be, did not. they died in the flames. so badly burned it's reported that dental records will be needed to make positive i.d.s. >> the driver was able to get out, and good samaritans did stop and assist and try to pull people from the fir
