dana? >> manu, thank you as always.the house doesn't impea impe president, as it is expected to do, it moves quickly to the senate, and the wrangling there is already underway. mitch mcconnell says he's coordinating with the house on the process for the senate trial and added that there is, quote, no chance the president is going to be removed from office. and now the senate democratic leader is weighing in and chuck schumer sent a letter to mcconnell asking for four witnesses. >> we're not trying to be dil iri dilitory, we're trying to have a trial that america looks for, which is fair and swift. there was no semblance of even discussing a fair, balanced trial where the facts come out. >> you want a deal, though, with mcconnell. you don't want this to get to an impeachment trial with no deal, right? >> what i want above all is a fair trial. i hope mitch mcconnell, i expect mitch mcconnell will help us create that. if he doesn't, we'll have to see where to go from there. >> the white house responded to schumer's letter

i'm dana bash. this week the house judiciary committee will begin considering whether to draft articles of impeachment against president trump. for one of the democrats on the committee, this is the third impeachment inquiry she's part of, congresswoman zoe lofgren worked for three proceedings on them against president nixon, president clinton and now president trump. and the california congresswoman joins me now. wow, that is quite a history you have there. thank you for joining us today. so your committee will hold the first public hearing in the impeachment inquiry on wednesday. just hours after the house intelligence committee is expected to approve its report and send it over to your committee. we've seen a lot of public testimony in the last few weeks. what is the biggest question left in your mind ahead of the beginning of your hearings? >> well, i think unlike some of the other proceedings, we got the best evidence at the very beginning. the do-me-a-favor-though phone call laid out a this-fo

dana bash is here. good morning. nice to have you in person. in the words of jerry connolly, about nancy pelosi, she doesn't follow parades. she leads them. >> very well put. >> where is this parade going? >> the key word in that is lead. she, obviously, understands her role. maybe better than most. maybe historically as a leader and the history of this moment is not lost on her. remember, she came to this reluctantly. really came to this notion of impeachment reluctantly. the pressure was on her by a lot of democrats, by the base to not give up their majority. not just say, okay, we have a majority but we're not doing anything to hold the president accountable. she's taken methodically taken her caucus through the process. they are at a point now where she has to, you know, check in with her and her caucus and with the country because this is so much about public opinion which, if you look at the polls, if you see where the caucus is and, more importantly, maybe the republicans, it hasn't moved at all. and so she has to get out there and tell
