nbc's dana griffin joins us now from los angeles. what can you tell us, dana?reporter: chris, 60-year-old dwayne davis has been arrested. he was arrested this morning in las vegas in connection to the murder of tupac shakur. officials say this comes just two months after las vegas police raided his wife's home in july. documented provided by police say that they found several items, including computers, laptops, tablets, external hard drives, audio recordings and other electronic storage media. davis, who is 60 years old, is a self-described gangster who is also the uncle of one of the suspected shooters in this case, orlando anderson. he was named early in this case. he later died in a gang shooting here in los angeles. davis in his book compton street legend wrote about breaking his silence over tupac's killing in 2010 during a closed door meeting with investigators. he said he inked out some deal with lapd to give information so that he could avoid prosecution. but it's looking like, chris, that his book and some of the interviews that he has done may be wha

nbc news correspondent dana griffin has more. >> reporter: the desperate search for a gunman who killeds county sheriff's deputy. >> we need to get this guy off the street. >> reporter: while on duty saturday, surveillance video appears what is a black vehicle pulls up to the deputy. the car pulls up closer, stops, and takes off. the video is the focus of the investigation. the 30-year-old field trainer was a third generation law enforcement officer engaged to be married just four days ago. he was shot in the back of the head, according to investigators. >> he was just driving down the street, and if no apparent reason, somebody decided to shoot and murder him. >> reporter: moments after being shot, sirens blair as a line of patrol vehicles support his trip to the hospital. a good samaritan found the deputy and called 911. later that night, a somber salute as the officer covered by an american flag is wheeled out of the hospital. lights once again illuminate the night sky in a professional to the coroner's office where his family walked hand in hand behind him. >> somebody saw something

joining us from nbc, dana griffin. police say they have detained a person of interest.orter: they have, ana. we're hoping to get new details in that press conference. we're told by our nbc station here in los angeles that an arrest was made this morning. and a person who recognized that dark gray toyota corolla, that vehicle of interest, noticed that vehicle and phoned in on that tip line. so we're hoping to hear that is in fact the case, according to this reporting by the local station here. but this is just hopefully going to be one bit of relief for that department, for the family, who are just dumbfounded over why this happened. the department believes that this was some sort of ambush because ryan clinkunbroomer had been on duty. he was in his marked patrol car in uniform. was just outside of the palmdale sheriff's station. so, it was a very brazen, very bold act to shoot a deputy, right outside of his place of work. we saw this video, as you're pulling up here, this dark-colored toyota corolla pulls up next to the officer, pauses, inches forward and then takes off

nbc's dana griffin is following this for us. what did prosecutors have to say about mcclain and what happened to him after he was hand cuffed? >> reporter: chris, as you mentioned earlier, this trial is centered around two of the five defendants, jason rosenblatt and randy roedema. these are the officers that responded after their colleague nathan woodyard, made contact with elijah mcclain in august 2019 they are trying to paint the picture that this 23-year-old massage therapist, 5'7", 140 pounds, was much smaller than these officers and did not require as much force or the lethal dose of ketamine that was administered by those two paramedics we heard in the audio played in court in opening statements that elijah stated seven times he can not breathe and we also heard his last words ever spoken around 10:59 p.m. that night, quote, please help me. the defense is acknowledging this was a tragedy, and also stated just because a tragedy occurred does not mean criminality occurred each of the five defendants are facing one count eac
