nbc's dana griffin is in scottsdale, arizona. hearing about this accident, dana? >> well. >> chris, the ntsb is now taking over the investigation. the faa says five people were involved in this crash. there were four people on the plane owned by vince neil and one person on this larger gulfstream jet that is in the distance. we'll try to zoom in as close as we can, because both of those planes are still here at the scottsdale airport. the one to the right was the parked plane, the one to the left, that is that that plane owned by vince neil. you can see it looks like it is cut in half. that just shows how violent the crash was. this plane somehow veered off the runway when the fire department says that the left main landing gear somehow malfunctioned, part of it was actually sitting on the runway. so that's going to be part of this investigation trying to figure out what caused that to malfunction. investigators have not released the identity of the person killed, but in a since deleted instagram post, mÖtley crÜe posted that neil

nbc's dana griffin is following this story for us. what more do we know about this flight, as well as the search? >> yeah, chris. so we know that investigators are trying to find that missing plane and all ten passengers that were on board. so this is a bering air flight 445. it departed yesterday afternoon from unique fleet, all heading to nome. this was supposed to be about a 40 45 minute flight. 40 minutes into the flight, the plane disappeared from radar. it was just ten minutes from its destination, about 12 miles offshore. now, according to the nome fire department, before the plane vanished, the pilot told air traffic control that he was entering a holding pattern, waiting for a runway to be cleared. it's unclear why he needed to wait, or if there's a little clue there as to why this plane disappeared. but it's obviously very heartbreaking because it's been several hours, and we know that several helicopters have been out there searching. they've done grid searches, but they have not yet found that missing plane. we know that t

nbc's daniel griffin joins us now. dana, good morning. what do we know about this?>> jose, good. >> morning. >> to you. so this plane disappeared yesterday afternoon on a flight from utica to nome, alaska. so this plane took off around 237 on thursday, and the plane was just 40 minutes, or i should say 40 minutes after departing and just ten minutes before its scheduled arrival, that plane disappeared about 12 miles off shore. now, according to the nome fire department, before the plane vanished, the pilot actually told air traffic control that he was entering a holding pattern while waiting for a runway to be cleared. now, there were no weather advisories at the time, however, there was low visibility and light snow in the area. you've now got multiple agencies conducting the search, including the coast guard, and we have heard some updates that they've searched all night, but unfortunately they have not been able to locate this plane. again, nine passengers and one pilot on board. officials believe that this plane was over the water at the time, but that's also th
