danamarie mcnicholl joins us now with more. hey, danamarie. >> hey, griff. well, it's that first saturday of early voting here and it's a popular method in north carolina. and now i'm here in asheville where most people were affected by hurricane helene, but they tell me it's still a very big priority to get to the polls and these long lines reflect it. take a listen. >> i think voting in politics wasn't even on my mind when the storm hit. now, it's important that we recover and build back better and making sure that we get the leaders in office that can help us do that here in western north carolina. >> now, in the 25 counties hit, 80 locations before planned, now dropped to 76. four sites had to close because of the devastation. 480,000 voters have already cast their votes across the state and this has been an all hands on deck effort to make sure that voters can get to the polls. multiple government organizations are working to get internet service, portable restrooms, sturdy tents and generators to those that need them. all do have power, but not all hav

danamarie mcnicholl's is live in miami and she has more for us.ill the sunshine state be the 25th state to legalize recreational weed? >> voters back in 2016 voted for legalization of medical marijuana by 71% of the vote so that could be an indicator of what is to come. both sides have invested about $100 million for this push at a time when doctors are seeing negative effects of people who use marijuana daily. although many do believe cannabis cannot become addictive, that has proven to be false. more than 4.5 million people use marijuana every single day. that is according to a 2022 national drug survey. 81% of them did meet the criteria for cannabis use disorder which doctors can say lead to mental health disorders like schizophrenia, anxiety, and depression. >> one thing we have to realize is marijuana today is not the same marijuana that we saw 30 or 40 years ago. back in the 1990s the potency was about 5%. now we are seeing some subsidies that about 30%. those strains of marijuana, that high potency is not without side effects. >> a new poll
