here's dani burger. dani: commerzbank posting a surprise profit. gainers on the stoxx 600 this morning. they are upgrading their full-year outlook, seeing an improvement from last year, where previously they had seen a decline. commerzbank going through this turnaround effort to cut costs, also having strong results and its security division. the complete opposite story of commerzbank this morning is going to be abn amro. it's one of the biggest decliners, following more than 6%. it saw a loss for the first three months of the year. it did set aside and release some of those assets set aside for bad loans. however, they had to pay a hefty fine for weak anti-money laundering control, completely wiping out the profits for the first quarter. looking at other corporate stories, just eat take away also falling in today's. session they are about to face more competition, specifically in the german market. delivery hero returning home, going back to germany for the first time in a couple of years, starting in berlin and expanding outwards. in terms of tha

joining us now is dani burger.beth warren really grilling diamond there, saying all of it is a bunch of baloney. is that the sense that all the other lawmakers put forth to the ceos? dani: it was. that was the most contentious part of the debate they had. baloney or not, all of it was very tense. at points, you could sense the frustration. whether it be jamie dimon giving one or. answers. when he was asked about climate change, he said, can we have a mature conversation? setting the tone was a senator from ohio saying that the nation has been very favorable to the financial industry. it's time that you do the same to the american people. if anything, this panel shows that the banking industry continues to be a political piÑata after getting the bailout from 2008. a lot of these had to do with topics from different senators. some of the more interesting ones, comments about the housing market, gorman from morgan stanley saying that the suburbs look frothy but things are ok. diamond saying there's a bubble. that was

anna: dani burger with the latest.between the east and the west, parts of asia struggles with a pickup in virus cases. let's get more with juliette saly in singapore. juliet, quick developments in the last couple of days. the case rates are still much higher in some developed markets where we are seeing opening up as the dominant narrative and parts of asia. but the culture around handling it has been different from the start. tell us about the way that the virus resurgence is turning up in your parts of the world? juliet: you look in singapore, yesterday we had 21 cases, and that has caused us to go into a partial lockdown, 21 cases in your part of the world would probably be something to celebrate. the concern is that it could pick up in a number of cases in asia, excluding india, as you can see in my chart, and it all happened very quickly. just a few weeks ago we are reporting that singapore was a place to be to whether the pandemic. the complaint is that there are 42 unlinked cases in the past week, up from seven.

let's look at the stocks on the move with dani burger. dani: one is up nearly nine this morning.r full forecast, markets excited, seeing levels return to 2019 levels. it was really dependent on getting people in the store, on those restrictions, being better. the caveat is yes, we will have this renewed level of learnings assuming restrictions stay here or get better. to the other side, we have the airlines not doing as well today, easyjet falling 2% or more throughout the trading session, right now just under that. there seems to be disappointment, about a dozen countries on their. but to him -- on there. according to morgan stanley, those are 6% of easyjet capacity. it's not that big of a benefit. finally, pointing out the material, the cyclical stocks doing better, the entirety of the energy space, we're seeing those stocks move higher, rio tinto one of the highest contributors. those shares are up nearly 3%. let me show you what the commodities are doing. we have wti. we have gasoline, both of those able to move higher. because of that pipeline that had the cyberattack in the

dani burger joins us. dani, what was hot and what was not so much? i do think it's important to do this because in the aggregate level that were hot that might not last. there's this question about whether it's transitory. he fears system of it is not. when you look at airlines, so this is airlines and hotel booking. this is a world getting back to normal. but one of the big contributors this time around that's due to a weird querk is used karen talls. we had all these dealerships who completely qi dated their -- liquidated. that means we've had these prices really rise here. this is something that doesn't seem as sustainable. but to drive home this point. i want to show you one more chart about how much these are contributing to the core c.p.i. because usually these are a fractional contribution but this time around hotels, used auto, awe oren talls as well. you can see their droiks the core c. pimplet i. jumped around 10%. usually it's hovering around zero. so it's contributing more than the other categories which an nmarie tip: is not the case. if

dani burger joins us. dani: julius baer called higher this morning. earnings and solid growth when it comes to assets, doing better on costs and margins as well. market expectations were really high when it came to julius baer, but still they had an exceptionally strong performance. progress on cost and capital, they say, is here to stay. the other sector to look out for is going to be autos. we had the big jump in european auto registry, tripling in april. it comes from a low base. one of the things to keep in mind is it is still 14% below the industry average for the month before the pandemic. it does seem like the picture has shifted from the demand picture to the shortage in semi conductors. john lange being bought. this is an and for structure portfolio. this helps kkr beef up that segment. they are based in the u.k., but they have projects throughout the developed world. kkr is going to be offering for for three pence per share, about an 11.5% increase from its close yesterday. anna: dani, thanks very much. mark, it is interesting to think about

dani burger has a rundown on what caught her eye this morning. dani?ani: i think it is already the jeannie being let out of the bottle. the manufacturing report in the u.s. yesterday added to the story of companies that we heard during earnings grappling with the supply chain. i want to go over some of the companies they talked about. there appears to be generalizeation of price across the supply line. i'm worried about getting the materials to support. demand continues to be strong but supply chains hamper our availability and ablingte ability to sell more. that mixed with the price of commodities going to its highest since 2008 shows you what an issue this is. the reaction in the market was swift. you had stronger oil, weaker dollar. the dollar dominating the direction where some of these assets are going. perhaps this has more to do talking about a patchy economic recovery. dollar stronger. with that weak equity story continuing to shine through with inflationary pressures, especially big tech being the more weak out of the future indexes. one thing

bloomberg's dani burger joins us. dani: start with an earnings one -- an engineering company.ggest gainers. they were able to beat on their earnings, also raising its final dividend as well. we are seeing those shares up more than 4%. that is nothing compared to the move we are seeing in deutsche bonin. it is one of the biggest deals in european real estate. those shares moving higher. it is being bought by vinod via. acquirer down by 4% or so. finally, i brought up argo blockchain. it is a pretty small company listed in london. about $25 million market cap or so. however, it is joining this bitcoin mining counsel. the council talked about by elon musk to promote energy transparency. interesting elon musk not only moving bitcoin, but companies related. for the macro, we do have the offshore you want breaking below the 6.4 level. as markets point out earlier, we want to see if that onshore yuan can do the same thing. you have the weaker dollar, the messaging from china -- perhaps mixed messaging on would they support the yuan in capital inflows. and the u.s. 10 year yield, that

dani burger has a breakdown. dani: burberry reporting earnings.sically in line, with about a drop of 9% when it comes to the fiscal year. quarterly results coming in at the high-end of the range. i have seen burberry close down in most instances. they flagged a lot of margin pressure they are likely to see. they are building a lot more stores. bp another want to keep and i on. they reported earnings. the big headline from them is this a joint venture they are exploring. the idea here is that they want to have more fiber rollout and they want a partner, an outside partner, to do this, so also increasing their forecast and target for the fiber rollout. the big yogurt maker, they are finally selling their stake in a chinese dairy company to appease a lot of disgruntled shareholders. the very fact they are doing this should please a lot of shareholders and allow the stock to go higher. the big thing is they are getting $2 billion from it and they plan to return that $2 billion to shareholders in the form a buybacks. anna: thanks very much. dani burger

let's get to dani burger.d scratchers but i want to start with the one that is very clear. hsbc. they are selling their retail operations and the u.s. to cafÉ bank. they will keep a few of the shops but that sale sent their shares in hong kong higher as well as those listed in london. nokia is the other one i want to focus on and this is hearken in back to the big meme stock. amc is doing well in the u.s. session. call options are very high. they did well in the u.s. yesterday which seems to be carrying over today. carnival is also doing well. this one is a little odd because our colleagues had flagged travel as a potential sector under pressure with the june 21 international travel reopening in the u.k. possibly in question now but this might have more to do with the value rotation we are seeing more broadly. u.s. futures -- small-cap outperforming carrying through to today's session. nasdaq futures still higher but not as high and the bond market for once agrees with the better economic picture as we see u.s

dani burger joins us with a rundown. dani: want to single out travel in europe.higher -- it really is this idea that plans for safe travel and travel in general is coming back. yesterday, we had a virtual meeting of tourism ministers from the g20 nations talking about their approval of vaccine passports. again, travel getting a bid. what is not getting a bid today is going to be delivery hero. we had a group of shareholders sell about $1.4 billion worth of shares, about 9.8 million shares. 3.9% of shares outstanding. really just taking advantage of the big rally delivery hero has seen on the back of that stay-at-home trade. finally, another share we are seeing move higher off the back of earnings is novo nordisk. not only raising the forecast about one percentage point higher for operating profit, but increasing the share of their buyback. europe in general has been benefiting from not having as much tech exposure than the u.s.. we saw that very large tech selloff yesterday. nasdaq futures slightly better today, slightly unchanged more or less. it is not enough t

dani: sage moving to the upside.oward the upper end of their guidance. i'd is inciting positivity. jp morgan raising their guidance on the stock as well. it is also interesting to see the next stock i have for you moving higher and that is the grocery delivery service, ocado. you have to wonder if people are bidding this up in anticipation of more restrictions. including boris johnson's concerns. i wanted to pick out one of those basic resources stocks were talking about. i feel like i have talking about rio tinto every day this week because it has been under significant pressure at the slide in some the commodity prices like iron ore. it is not just rio tinto. the entire space. any sort of the materials, basic resources, energy and oil seem to be under pressure today. anna: rio tinto up 13% year to date despite today's negativity. stocks are back in the green today after a bruising week. above forecast producer prices in the u.s. but signs of a strengthening economic recovery are using some concerns. jobless claims

dani burger joins us. dani: equity trading just blew it out of the park.ros put it at the highest. for the most part, banks have had higher trading figures. that could -- that good start means they were able to be on profit. this will not have much impact on shares, but we spoke earlier to them who sent they will work remotely for up to three days a week. another corporate story is air france reports sizable loss and because of that, in order to strengthen their balance sheet, they are thinking about doing some equity offerings, using some instruments. investors will vote on that. we will see if that has any effect on shares. the retailers, more brick and motor and online once are beating the sales, they are updating their forecast. a really strong rebound as people are coming back into stores. of course, the online shopping boom. anna: thank you very much. dani burger with the latest on markets. commodities are very much at the heart of things. we are watching the london market with how they deal with the moves. not all commodities are moving. mark: yes,

here is dani burger. dani: more positive stories today. the most positive story is airbu s. production. boeing suppliers to get ready for this. definitely there is a lofty goal for them. with that, we are seeing suppliers move higher. again, off the back of that positive story, just some context. they currently make -- the goal is over 60. a definite increase. also moving higher in today's trading, it has to do with some executive action. there is an up and stake. when it comes to overall market picture, we get a sense we are starting to enter the summer goal. volume has been pretty low, especially when you look at the u.s.. that may be why we are seeing some of those moves the way they are, we are getting some shortcoming. we are looking at german 10 year yields also around negative basis points. with that line, the rate story is not connected with the equity story. we are seeing nasdaq futures lower this morning. deutsche bank are saying that it is all about earnings, the growth story has not been there. it is all about cyclicals from here on out. small-cap futures are not

thank you, bloomberg's dani burger.lcome to you if you are tuning in a more real day -- tuning in on memorial day. let's get to steen jakobsen, my guest from saxo, the cio, sage of all things markets. great to have you with me this morning. we've got a lot to get through over the next hour, so let's just pause for thought. what message do you take away from the pboc raising? is that another measure of tightening? steen: for the chinese right now, they are trying to balance between the commodity price rises coming into the economy, which they want to somehow get a buffer from, and at the same time remain competitive. i don't think the chinese are concerned about being able to do exports because simply, the spillover from in particular the u.s. economy is so strong, that pacitti and china is running at almost 100% -- that capacity in china is running at almost 100%. they don't necessarily see the level as an issue. they just think it's got a little bit out of hand. remember, we are into the quiet period of the no-fly zone

what do you read into that, dani?'s almost sort of it test to see if other attorneys general would join in on this as well. part of what makes it sort of novel in terms of a lawsuit is that it is new, but the approach is almost something of an old-school manner in that maybe it something you would expect to be raised against 19th-century railroad baron, for example. not only is it about competition, it's at their forcing prices higher. the allegation is that they will charge a certain merchant of fee and their price has to be raised by amazon. however, if they also raise their fee on another platform, amazon will allegedly bury that merchant's results within the amazon platform, and as we know, that is key for what people buy. let me quickly read to you this response from amazon that says, the d.c. attorney general has it exactly backwards. sellers sell their own -- set their own prices for the products they offer in our store. amazon ended the day up .4%, so it didn't exactly hit the share price. ♪ ♪ look, if your wi
