dani: thank, enda curran. there have been some big swings as the boj stands by their monetary policy. the currency briefly touched 145, a level not seen since 1998. the boj, holding the balance rate at -.1%. let's get to paul dobson. absolute whiplash in this market. it seems like there may have been some strength but it has now disappeared. is there anything that can stop the dollar dissent at this point? >> globally it looks like nothing can stand in the way it by now. that is part of the problem. this tidal wave we are seeing across all of the markets, to be fair, there are no weak spots. there is a general underperformance. if you are going to do intervention, help people. make people scared of you. that is probably the only weapon they have. not in a panic, but continuing to go, they will only be able to slow the flow. i think that is what we are seeing with the monetary policies. not that much action because they know they will just get washed away by the strength of the dollar. dani: you mentioned steal

dani: fair enough. was talking to aberdeen earlier on the program and he said considering the inflationary picture in the u.k., the boh needs to be clear in their mission to bring it down. his manifestation of that was 100 basis points worth of hikes from the boe. you think that is realistic? samuel: i think 50 basis points the going rate for the next couple of meetings. i do not see the need to escalate that. the high inflation outlook is entirely due to the shock we are seeing from higher energy prices , and if the government is able to hold the energy prices steady i think we could see a 2% rate of inflation by the end of 2023 comeback at their clear disinflation pressures now. markets are shipping costs down. oil included. at that point there is a favorable underlined abutment for inflation as we go through 2023. if the government intervene successfully, then we could really put pressure on the boe to go with the rapid pace of tightening. joe: -- dani: you write in your notes that you see in early 2

dani. dani: perhaps some optimism there. the gas futures.hs says they are continuing to cut their expectations for risk assets in europe. that is for both equities and credit. we are seeing some weakness in the euro stoxx 50 futures this morning after four days of rallying. we also saw u.s. stocks notch their longest winning streak since july. slightly stronger this morning, up .1% for the s&p and nasdaq. nasdaq got a bit of a bump from apple yesterday due to strong preorder sales for the iphone. a lot of activity to the bullish side. we might not see a ton of price action before we get the cpi data later from the u.s. manus: we know the bond traders are a nervous bunch. dani, let's talk about scaremongering and fairytales. the strategists at barclays are saying that is the speculation you have on the u.k. deficit crisis. seeing the deficit as it stands on the moment -- at the moment on the screen. they say that increased worries about the deficit are overblown and the bank of england should support the currency under unwind some of the unde

dani: the u.k. does have this unique situation where a lot of debt and mortgages are tied to this rate market. the market pricing some 150 basis points of hikes and you say they can't do that given what it would do to the mortgage market. how hamstrung is the boe at this point to help fight inflation? mark: i think some of the measures that have been announced are helping mitigate inflation in the short term. measures to cap energy prices led us to revise our projections on inflation from a peak about 18% back down to 12%. although we have done some steps , that is more of a medium-term effect. ultimately, if you are going to have a nasty recession with higher rates and a collapsing housing market, or you will have to choose which is the lesser of different people's here -- evils here. ultimately the bank of england may need to tolerate a weaker pound and longer inflation that otherwise would have been the case but there isn't an easy way out. dani: what are you doing in this gilt market? remarkable

dani: what can take its place? investment, looking outside of china for companies who are hopefuls in asia? where do you move on from china? joerg: we see -- you have to be in china and that is what we came up with for this, taking 80% of the entire investment. at the same time, we see smaller companies and it depends on travel to china, seeing what can be done. that is not possible because you still have hardships, so they go elsewhere. asia is interesting and we have more near shoring. the eu is looking at eastern europe, turkey, and other places. the chinese economy will have to rebound in order to get back to this number one place that they rightfully had for a couple of years. tom: and geopolitics back at the top of the agenda today and what we are seeing in terms of russia upping the ante and partial mobilization. what extent are you thinking about the risks when it comes to china and taiwan even the response we have seen from the west and others to russia and the sanctions put in place? how much of that is p

dani: let's dive into that story.aine's forces continuing rapid advance in the kharkiv region, exploiting the collapse of russian forces. for more, we are joined by our europe reporter, maria tadeo. what are the latest developments? maria: what we see is a very quick but also effective advance from the ukrainian army in the east of the country. you mentioned the kharkiv region, but the pushback is still on the move. president zelenskyy yesterday was very clear -- "the liberation of our territory will continue." he says since the start of september, more than 10,000 square kilometers has been liberated in east ukraine for the ukrainians. this is a huge boost to morale the of really needed, and it validates the theory that heavier weapons do make a huge difference on the battlefield. wars are won on the battlefield, that's what they repeat. for the russians, it is an embarrassment and logistical failure. the question going forward, what does vladimir putin do next? until now, no conscription, no declaration of war. he s
