dani, good morning. dani: good morning, manus. and that chunky auction yesterday for the 10-year yield, the bond, that is, a lot of demand. let me take you through equity markets. we did see a giveback in american stocks yesterday, though they are finally starting to come back both in the futures market and the msci pacific trade. i want to mention adani, the msci right now investigating the free float for adani. long story short, it could change the weighting of adani in passive indices. we are seeing closer positioning to neutral. we have to talk about one of the more difficult stories we've been tracking every day this week. it is the humanitarian crisis that's unfolding in turkey. as officials try to contain that humanitarian crisis, they are trying to contain the financial risk. we need to also talk about what's happening in the turkish equity market. they have closed the equity market for five days, trading will resume february 15, following panic selling of about 35 billion dollars worth of turkish equities. manus: that is

dani: fair enough. back to the bonds, back to shopping for bonds. 10 year is at a mechanical level but at one point, we did have a curve that was inverted to -90. really extreme stuff there, but again the consumer is strong. how do we keep taking this is a sign? kriti: do we look at the two, tends as part of the narrative. there might be a no landing scenario. as you look at a consumer who can weather this. you see this in corporate stories. look at airbnb, trip advisor, they say demand is unquenchable. they are raising prices and consumers are still eating it up and that's important. there is a scenario that is being priced in that maybe a recessionary call is not a factor anymore because we could get out on the others of this and be fine. mike: we have seen recession indicators, recession forecasting indicators that people put out. still calling for a recession, but may be the 10 year yield is reacting that instead of recession, they need to price and a rebound, a stronger economy with lower inflation

dani: good to speak with you.uestions about disney, for example, the politics there. what is the playbook for companies trying to weigh the broader esg the shareholder needs and political risk emerging from these types of discussions and laws? matt: it is unfortunate that companies are put in this situation because companies are responding to their customers mostly. if you think about disney, the largest employer in florida, doing things that it's customers and its employees wanted to do with respect to treating people with equity and inclusion, for example. the state of florida has pushed back against diversity and inclusion, which is something disney is responding to. it is a bit cynical if you think about it this way because disney is the largest employer in florida. alix: are the rating agencies going to catch up to this? matt: companies rate the states based on their economies and so forth. it has very little to do with social issues. the state of florida and texas are pursuing a social agenda, literally a so

dani: maybe it's just all about positioning. we are assuming this discomfort -- sitting in this discomfort of inflation for longer which brings us to the question of the day. disinflation, is it fact or fiction. simon, you are here next to me in the studio, what do you say? does this confirm whether disinflation is happening or if it's just a fiction. simon: it's definitely happening. the issue is there's literally no ability to go into shock. inflation slots tell you what inflation is good to be. they're projecting us steady downward trend. in this kind of any kind of shock priced in. it's just your basic facts so cpi markets. we don't really know it can happen so we'll use the path of least resistance. anything can happen to shock markets here. alix: it's fact but it's hard to understand what that means for markets. factor fiction. nora: i want to say it's fact but it's hard to prove. if you look at how inflation is manifesting itself in the u.s. you're looking at the biggest contributor here increasing inflation looking at fo

dani: short and sweet. to say, i wonder how relaxed the ecb is right now this moment given how strong those pmi's were. does that just mean we are going to see a more hawkish side from them given the surprising strength of the european economy? >> we definitely think so. the strength of the pmi's is underlining the resilience of the years on economy and the face of the energy crunch from russia's invasion of ukraine. that just gives the ecb more power to continue its fight against inflation. it means i don't have to be worried as much by what the hikes are doing to the consumer. the zona, so far is taking the ecb rate hikes on the chin. alix: which is totally amazing. traders looking at higher rates for 2024. how high do you think the ecb will be able to go here? >> our current forecast is 3.5% for june. if the numbers later this week, in higher than we are expecting, then that is in question. we would have to bump up our rate forecast. it would fl suggest at least one more 50 and it is second quarter. but

dani: a shock.e had nicola sturgeon, the first minister of scotland stepping down after eight years. sturgeon is out. what is next? that is our question of the day. he might be located in london, his bosses are likely in edinburgh, it is james athey, aberdeen director. the u.k. politics political story has been a volatile one. at times it impacts the markets. does nicola sturgeon leaving the dial a little? james: it is early days. we have no idea as to a replacement. it doesn't look like they have a strong bench, so i would think at the margin this feels like a bit of a blow for the independence push, but recent polls in the last couple of years have been shifting back in the direction of no anyway. potentially that is why nicola sturgeon has decided to step aside. alix: it does raise a question for me. do you have to hedge any political risks? ever since brexit if you kept doing that it didn't pay off. that makes sense? how do we put this in an investment thesis? james: i think you added to the lis

dani: it will shake things up.e also get gdp tomorrow but we already had an estimate from the european commission for the 2023 outlook and it is better. the line is then between recession and no recession, but for the european commission lee line just got a bit thicker. they previously saw growth at about .3%. they have upgraded that to .9%. it is all about energy and improvement in that story. it also means the inflationary forecast, they were able to cut it to under 6%. before, it was 6.3%. that is still not positive, still a lot of price growth and still a lot for the ecb to try to wrap their arms around. alix: it is a continuing signal. the data is still holding up even though the sentiment feels moshi and there are still risks that everyone is worried about. to this point, the e.u. commissioner talked about the difficult period of growth and potential slowing and inflation easing, but it may be gradual. he gave his outlook ahead. >> the forecast appears to be balanced related to pandemic and -- shortages. unce
