so let's test it with daniel dale. good to have you, brother. true, not so true?> it's not true at all. i spoke to the author of this study. he's a clinton supporter, that part is correct. there are various questions about the quality of the study but even the study's author says that the president didn't describe the study correctly. what the study's author says is he has no evidence that anything was manipulated, search results or votes themselves. what he says, and this is disputed, is that google's search results showed bias during the 2016 -- >> meaning what? >> what he says is he got a bunch of people, basically random americans to google various election related things and he says that the first page of the google results were more proclinton on google than other websites. there are a lot of questions about the methodology i can get into. >> science aside, nobody believes polling is scientific anyway. here's what is interesting to me is that the president is now ascribing credibility to an infection that he ignores about russia. you messed with the type of

joining me now is cnn's daniel dale who is fact checked just about every word the president said sincehe president even talking about here. >> so, john, he's talking about a study by a psychologist named robert epstein and the problem with his tweet is that he's not only referring to a study who whose conclusions are disputed and misdescribing the study and spoke to epstein and he said he never alleged google was manipulating votes, what he alleged is that bias in google search results may have affected as many as 10.4 million votes between 2.6 million and 10.4 million votes in the 2016 election. he made clear he doesn't have evidence these votes were affected but said it might be up to about 10 million. so the 16 million number was conjured up by the president. now there are problems with the study itself. it is not just trump's description. what epstein did was ask people a random selection of americans, he crowd sourced this to rate the alleged bias of the results that came up with they searched various election-related things on google and bing and yahoo. so if it was pro-trump it

daniel dale, let me come to you. the fact checking that has to be done after an event like this from the president, when he says that prices have not gone up because of these tariffs, fact check that for us. what's the truth? >> well, we've had numerous announcements from major individual companies that they themselves are raising prices as a result of the tariffs and on an economy-wide basis we know there is inflation. core inflation exceeded 2% in july. that was a six-month high. we have 1.8% overall inflation. that's still below the fed's 2% target. but the blanket claim that there are no price increases is simply false. >> and the statement also that stood out to me was the president said that the u.s. had not -- never taken in as much as 10 cents from china and will soon collect $10 billion. he's still promulgating this lie that tariffs are paid by chinese companies. >> there are a couple of problems. one is exactly what you said. americans pay these tariffs. americans make the literal payments. now we have a ho

as far as his claim about environmental impact statements, our own fact checker extraordinaire daniel dale, who will be here in just a few minutes, points out that you do environmental impact statements for development projects. they have nothing to do with being an environmentalist. that as axios is reporting that the president has looked is that the idea of using nuclear bombs to stop hurricanes headed for the u.s. nuclear bombs. the president insisting he never said that. though it is apparently not an uncommon question. let's state the facts here. noaa, pointing out that one, a nuclear bomb might not actually have any effect on a hurricane. and two, the radioactive fallout could cause devastating problems. noaa concluding with impressive understatement, needless to say, this is not a good idea. it's really not a good idea at all. they're not even sure what to say about this. the president saying, if the first lady melania trump has gotten to know kim jong-un. >> the first lady has gotten to know kim jong-un and i think she would agree with me. he is a man with a country that has tremen

joining me right now the cnn's daniel dale. this demands fact checking. what have you found?t president trump got his findings wrong and a whole bunch of other people say that the study itself is highly flawed. so the author of the study says that he never alleged google manipulated anything. even in search results much less votes. what the author is alleging is that there was bias in google's search results that was sufficient to have potentially affected millions of votes. now, there are a ton of questions about this author's methodology but that's what he says. >> think we've almost lost count maybe of how many voter fraud theories, conspiracy theories that the president has jumped on since 2016. can you remind folks, has there been any evidence to back any of the claims up? >> no. there hasn't. he's alleged mass voter fraud in california. he's generally alleged that illegal immigrants are dawned disguises, and there's no evidence for that. there's no evidence for his conspiracy theory about thousands of people being bussed from massachusetts to new hampshire to vote illeg

cnn fact checker daniel dale speak with the researcher. he said the president was wrong in saying that google manipulated votes or search results. the study claims that google search algorithms are influencing voters and senate testimony epstein said the search results were bias to favor hillary clinton over the course of 25 days he studied. he never says what bias in favor of hillary clinton means or how he extrapolates that it could have influenced 2.6 million votes for hillary clinton in 2016. so the whole thing is flimsy at best but it was certainly enough for the president to hop on one of his favorite hobby horses, voter fraud. i want to quickly follow the hoof marks. first, he trotted out the unfounded claims that millions of illegal immigrants voted for clinton. then he went for a cantor with a voter fraud commission to establish that happened that fell apart because there was no evidence to find. by last week nearly three years after the election after he said we won was back on the horse at full gallop. >> new hampshire should be

cnn's fact checker extraordinaer daniel dale points out that congress has not approved $92 billion for puerto rico. that's a long-term cost estimate that fema says 43 billion has actually been allocated, 13.8 billion has actually been spent, which is a long way from $92 billion, no matter how many times the president falsely claims that. and then there is the trump administration's plan to shift 155 million from fema's disaster relief fund, money that could be used for hurricane relief to its immigration crackdown at the border wall. they're shifting money from disaster relief to immigration, with a hurricane threatening. that is not a good look. a fema spokeswoman says that they'll still have enough money, but acknowledges the challenges of sporndiresponding to dorian of what she called the complex recovery effort from earlier storms. >>> this is a time when the american people would have every reason to expect their president to stand by them. puerto ricans are american people. to stand by them, to stand by them, to be a leader. but this president is consumed by his feuds with anybod
