[applause] >> thank you for being here today. this is really exciting and want to thank politics and prose. i think it's a right of passage for political writers in particular to do with reading here. it's exciting for me. before i get started just want to say one or two more things. one is to my wife jessica who is here today, who is sort of a part of the book in more ways than i can articulate. i tried to get at it a little bit innate knowledge meant to thank you for being here with me and being april of this but i want to say i'm back to my kids. i did know i was gone to be on tv so it is added joel and annie what i'm going to do is i'm going to give you i guess what i would call a genealogy of the book. i would get into the themes of the book some but i want to start with how it came into existence because it's not always the case that a book that's about history and politics has a useful or meaningful personal back story but i think in this case it does it's maybe impossible to fully understand what the book is and what i've
