courthouse thankful he is not going to jail remorseful for causing the death of santa cruz driver daniel mcguire. >> i told the family i'm sorry for what happened. i wish i wasn't on the road that day and someone had not lost life because of my actions. >> reporter: singh was behind the wheel of a big rig loaded with tons of dirt that plowed into several cars on highway 17 near los gatos in july of 2014. he didn't have a chance. several other drivers were injured saying he had only been driving trucks for three months told reporters at the time that he lost his brakes. he pled no contest to misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter and faced up to ayer in jail. at sentencing today, the family asked the judge not to put him in jail. >> it doesn't benefit to us have him sit in jail. what we need for him to do is speak out against the trucking company that put him in this position. >> reporter: he was sentenced to 400 ours who of community service which he promised to spend speaking to new drivers at truck training schools and to lobby in sacramento for new legislation to strengthen truck driving laws. >>
