cbs's danielle nottingham reports from the white house. >> the 2012 campaign for the white house has a new key issue. the outsourcing of american jobs. president obama and mitt romney traded attacks friday over romney's role at the private equity firm. the obama campaign says that his chief executive, romney personally shipped jobs overseas. >> my opponent, he invested in companies who are called pioneers of outsourcing. >> romney made jobs a center piece of his campaign. he says he took a leave of absence from bane in february, 1999, to run the salt lake city olympics. and that he was not in control of the companies doing the outsourcing. but during that time, bane filed reports with the securities and exchange commission describing romney as sole shareholder, sole director, chief executive, president, and managing director. in an interview with cbs news, romney called the accusations shocking and ridiculous. >> president keeps on trying to divert any attention he can from his failure to turn around the american academy. >> romney called on the president to apologize and focus on mo

danielle nottingham reports from hard-hit silver spring, maryland. >> reporter: the power came back too soon to this neighborhood in silver spring, maryland. sparks from the still damaged line caused a fire and another delay for some in the 2 million homes and businesses still waiting for the lights to come back on. vanessa himmins blames her power company, pepco. >> having down wire is so dangerous, and we called it in numerous times, and not only have they not removed it, but then they're sending power through it and causing, starting fires. >> reporter: the damage is being blamed on a straight-line windstorm called a derecho, which is spanish for straight ahead. with gusts up to 80 miles an hour, the derecho raged from indiana, 600 miles to the nation's capital, lighting up the night sky while knocking out the lights to 3 million at its worst. >> trees come down and destroy the infrastructure. that's exactly what's going to happen. i mean, you have to look at this as a catastrophic event. >> reporter: falling trees caused most of the damage and death blamed on this storm, but now off
