and thank you for being with us. >> thank you for having me. >> we have danny hurley who is a person who has experienced schizophrenia firsthand. and so danny, i thought we'd start by having you tell us a bit about how you were doing before you became ill with schizophrenia. what happened when you became ill and tell us a little bit about how things have been going ever since. >> well, before the onset of the disease i had almost unlimited potential. i was the valedictorian of my high school class. i was a national merit scholar, and i took 10 advanced placement courses and i scored in the top 5% of nine of them is so i could have went to any school in the country. >> what happened to the 10th. >> actually, i wrote about the wrong subject on an essay. i could have went anywhere in the country but i diseeded to go to georgia tech. in my first year there i got a 4.0 grand point average. after that i went on a trip to europe. and i started writing a journal about my days in europe and i was having the time of my life. and the thoughts in the journal slowly became very paranoid. i started
