danny savage, bbc news.e people living behind those defences advised to leave their homes and those living nearby told it would be a good idea to have a bag packed in case they need to get going in a hurry. and the worry is that the river levels will continue to get so high that they eventually overtop these barriers. that's why they've told people to be on red alert here. i don't know if you can just see the water in the background, there, even though we're losing the light here? but it is a very swollen river severn. we've been up the river, about half an hour up river today, and there are homes there beginning to flood and people beginning to leave. and that's basically because of the delayed reaction on this water. essentially, all this extra water you're seeing here on the river severn here fell on the welsh hills over the weekend and that sort of 48 hour delay means that this river is continuing to get high. in fact, we're told it may not even peak until around this time tomorrow evening. and what that

our correspondent danny savage has more. a half years in prison. part of this case is that the victims are calling for him to be stripped of his title of lord ahmed of rotherham. he was tried under his name of nazir ahmed but still carries that title. he goes to prison today as a lord. he will be released as things stand in about two and a half years' time halfway through his sentence still able to use that title. what some people are saying is there now needs to be a change in the law to strip him of that title so he cannot benefit in the future by using it or making any financial gain. so that is part of the crux of this matter — should he now lose his title after being sentenced today to prison for five and a half years. one of his victims gave an impact statement today saying how it had affected her life. she said, "he is a paedophile who feels no personal shame but in the end all tyrants fall." he was wearing a suit in the dock, listening to the sentencing remarks from the judge today. he turned and waved to his family,

imposed by private car park operators are to be capped at £50 in england, scotland and wales — as danny savageails into an automated system where he was allowed to park. he is now contesting the £2000 the private parking company says he owes. the biggest frustration is not being able to deal with anybody. it's just a faceless organisation. they just try to maximise the payments they can get from me. it is prime land. we need it for our guests for the hotel. we don't have enough spaces as it is. but businesses which use private parking firms say they have an important role. at this hotel they will pass your details onto a company to pursue you for £100, but only as a last resort. if you are not booked in with us, a ticket goes on. but it clearly also explains you have an opportunity to come into the hotel and pay the normal parking rate, so no extra fine, just settle for your ticket. we don't want people coming here and dumping cars. and just before this interview we saw somebody did exactly that, trying to go and do her shopping! you can be pursued through the civil courts for a parking charge
