we're along el capitan drive in the city of danville. there is still mud on the road, and if you look beyond you can see that home there, this home is like a number of homes in this part of el capitan drive. they have sandbags in front of their garage doors, in front of their entrances because they saw what happened here on saturday when it flooded and, of course, they don't want to get hit again with the storm coming in now. there is some rain starting to come down. video further north here in contra costa county. the fire protection district has their boats ready for any possible swift water rescues. this is the flooding they witnessed last weekend. con fire believes it's almost a given this storm is going to threaten lives. >> the extent our residents can prepare now to avoid those risks will help all of us to be able to focus on the really life-threatening situations that require immediate response. >> reporter: the emeryville police department summing up what all of us can do to help, make sure your storm drains or gutters are free,

this is the san ramon creek in danville. this is what overflowed on saturday, which caused the massive flooding. cleanup crews and residents have been out here over the past few days clearing branches and debris so that the water does not cause flooding. over here to the side of this stream you can see it is being cleared up. there is yellow caution tape that has been put up as well as sandbags trying to reinforce the area along the river. as the rain starts to come down we will see if it will actually hold off. over the past few hours, crews have beenleing uphe streets al they are trying to use this lull in the rain as a cleanup effort. there is still a considerable amount of thick mud on the streets here. let's show you video from earlier today. these are homes along the greenbrook neighborhood area. they run parallel to the san ramon creek. i spoke to one resident. he says he watched the creek overflow saturday, so he knows what to expect. >> i would say the biggest thing is that little creek, once that starts filling up,

fire officials say this is not typical for danville and there was too much water flooding. conditions got so bad on saturday afternoon, san ramon police used an armored vehicle to help with rescues. they rescued 13 people from severe flooding, responding to more than 100 flood related incidents in a matter of hours. fire fighters had to use a kayak for a mom and herome.we gngtoe - rescued. it was very traumatic. lena: part hit hard, drainage systems were not able znd mud was coming off of the hillside across the pathways and parking lot. this caused a sinkhole to form under the zoo during the rain and that made it 10 feet deep and 10 feet across, making it impassable for all drivers. the zoo will be closed for two weeks until the 17th because of this damage. the good news is that no animals or staff work hurt during the flood. reggie: the officials in san mateo are warning people to stay away from local beaches until there is three days of clear whether. they said that sewage has overflowed impacting the coast. contaminated sewage water flooded streets. toilet paper and deb

all right, lawrence, and this just in the town of danville is proclaiming a local emergency there due to severe storms coming this week. namely tomorrow, officials say the local emergency proclamation allows the town greater. >> flexibility to try to get supplies to have a faster disaster response. >> neighborhoods in danville were slammed by saturday storm and are still. cleanup from that as they get ready for tomorrow's big storm. the brookside drive neighborhood was one of the hardest hit areas. officials say the local emergency proclamation will expire at noon on tuesday, january 10th. >> and happening tomorrow, all athletic and extracurricular programs within the south. san francisco unified school district. those are canceled. and on thursday, the district is planning to close schools and canceled classes. the superintendent making that announcement ahead of the storm saying that the health and safety of the community is their top priority. officials are saying that classes and programs will resume as usual on friday, january 6th. >> san francisco mayor london breed outlined the

a neighborhood in danville came together to clear out debris at the nearby creek. during last week's storm, the creek flooded spilling everywhere, water just went over the banks. it's what the danville station neighborhood, this is what it's called, so they're getting ready for a round of rain again. a neighbor and former firefighter spearheaded the cleanup effort. >> everybody came together and other people texted their friends and, like, for instance there's a kid on our street who is a freshman in high school. the srv freshman football team came down here and was helping. they were waist deep with everybody else in the creek behind me pulling stuff out. it was a power in numbers thing for sure. >> he says he will be monitoring the creek to make sure it stays clear of debris so it doesn't overflow. we took you to the south bay, to the east bay and now the north bay. water rescues, flooded streets, power outages. the north bay in the thick of this storm grind as well. jodi hernandez has been tracking the trouble spots in sonoma and napa counties. she joins us from
