this is bloomberg. ♪ dani: the u.s.st guard says the five crewmembers aboard the missing titan submersible have died from what appears to be a catastrophic implosion of their vessel. for more on this, let's get to katrina nichols. >> the latest that was heard is that the u.s. navy had already detected an implosion on sunday at the site. it was not made public until this time. information was shared with the u.s. coast guard and a decision was made to continue the mission as a search-and-rescue to make sure that every effort was made to save the lives on board. that is according to a senior navy official speaking under the condition of anonymity. the coast guard said on thursday that the five crewmembers had died from a catastrophic implosion of their vessel. after examining some debris found underwater by a remotely operated vehicle. the nosecone of the ship was discovered along with other pieces of debris including portions of the ship's pressure hull. that is where we stand at the moment. dani: we know there were five

dani: are there any hints?ebecca: this time last year there was still an environment of low interest rates. now their interest rates in europe of almost 5%. that is a big impact. the cost of capital within private equity deals. dani: kenda -- can the industry come back? as long as the -- continues to hike? rebecca: we have seen very good returns. i think we have seen a bit of inflection. we are adjusting to the new inflection environment. what you're seeing is that environments trying to capture some of the market sharing. dani: as a private equity investor, the very nature is micro. this is a moment where you have had to care about the macro. how are you thinking about ecb hikes? i will point when they continue to hike because it actually become a problem? when deal flow actually stops? rebecca: funds driven by high levels of leverage. a lot of deals will do it. for us, it is not as big of a driver. a lot of others are more impacted by the levels of debt and the cost of debt. i think you will see those funds w

dani: right. we're looking at setbacks, as we're sort of waiting as you say as they're promising the growth will come, what do you do for attracting foreign direct investment? simon: we continue to make sure that ireland's proposition remains competitive. ireland's pitch if you like for foreign direct investment is very clear. we have a very stable political environment in ireland. we have a lot of certainty in terms of tax policy in ireland. and how that sinks in with global tax policy now. but most importantly, it's the skills you get in ireland. you know, we have coming out of irish universities now, probably the highest level of stem based degrees. so we have a conveyor belt of talent coming out of irish universities which is proven to be very, very successful for us. it's why so many companies continue to grow out of ireland and also locate in ireland. last year alone, we had 100 new multi-nationals come to ireland for the first time. we had 240 new multi-national announcements in terms of gr

dani burger joins us with a guest. take it away. dani: hi, that's right.d by nikos stathopoulos , chairman of europe at bc partners. we always look forward to this conversation. we talked roughly a year ago, and he said i am an optimist. a lot has happened, svb, central banks are still hiking, are you still an optimist? nikos: thank you for having me, dani. i'm still cautiously optimistic. the market is stabilizing. inflation seems to have peaked. we see it in the u.k. and europe. interest rates remain high. but hopefully, they will stop increasing. you see the market stabilizing. there is no doubt that we need to become more cognizant of the fact that both inflation and interest rates will remain higher for longer, but apart from that, i think the world is adjusting to the new norm and things are stabilizing. dani: can this industry adjust? there has been a lot of leverage in high valuations, can everyone deal with higher for longer? nikos: when i started my career 25 years ago, it was higher inflation, and we did have higher interest rates. we did go thr
