darcy spencer joins us live from springfield with more on this. darcy, good evening. >> reporter: good evening, aaron. those signs were taken down along i-95 this weekend. hundreds of inspections are taking place. it appears the common thread here is cracked bolts. they want to make sure another sign doesn't collapse like it did last weekend. a week ago saturday, a huge overhead sign collapsed onto the eastbound lanes of i-66 near west ox road in fair faeks county, crushing the front of a pickup truck. it came down during high winds and later found to have cracked bolts. it triggered a department of transportation inspection of similar highway signs including the bolts that hold these signs together. >> there were structures that should be able to sustain very high winds. so that might have just been the straw that broke the camel's back and pushed it over of the some of those bolts were also fractured. so why we have a problem with these bolts is unclear. and that's what we need to get to the bottom of. >> reporter: this weekend, vdot took down th

news 4's darcy spencer searched far and wide for some snowflakes out there, and you found some, darcy>> reporter: i sure did, aaron. you know, just until a few minutes ago we were getting sort of a wintry mix here in woodbridge. we were getting mostly rain but a little bit of snow in there. it's basically tapered off at this point. but here's proof that it really did snow. take a look here. the roads are pretty much wet, but here you can see a little bit of snow still laying on the ground, enough for maybe a small snowman. we drove here to woodbridge from fredricksburg, and they got a little more of the white stuff. in the fredricksburg area the snow made it a beautiful winter wonderland. large heavy flakes falling and laying on grassy surfaces and cars. for some it was about time. especially this man. it's his birthday. >> it was great. i think we've been missing the winter just about all year. so it's great to have a little bit of it. >> reporter: here in springfield the snow was mixed with rain, but the further south you went on interstate 95 it was all snow. that made driving cond

darcy spencer has the latest now from annapolis. >> reporter: the gay marriage bill is being debated right now on the senate floor here at the state house. the senate president mike miller says he expects the bill to pass but it's turning into a lengthy debate because there are a number of amendments that are being introduced. one of the amendments deals with religious freedoms, how same sex marriage will or could affect churches and other religious institutions. supporters of the bill say religious protections are included in the bill but some senators say this could lead to conflicts in the church and lawsuits. >> we will in fact see a circumstance where a religious entity has to make that very difficult choice between complying with their deeply held religious convictions that this amendment protects versus the coercive power of the state to say, you have to comply with this law. >> no church will ever under any circumstances have to perform, salemize, or celebrate or promote same sex marriage or any marriage they disapprove of, interracial marriage, interfaith marriage, what have

darcie spencer has seen that tape. she joins us live with the latest on this story. darcie? >> reporter: i have been able to see the videotape, it shows the suspect walking down the sidewalk. two officers approach from behind. one of the officers reaches around his waste area and strikes the suspect on the head. you see a flash, and the defendant's attorney tells me the flash was the officer's gun going off. and the suspect drops to the ground. fortunately, no one was hurt in that. this video was taken outside a construction company in brentwood. this all started friday night. two officers were patrolling the area. they saw a couple guys going into the gas station with masks on. they thought maybe this was a robbery in progression, so they went to investigate. one of the officers involved is corporal taylor. they confronted the suspects, they're at the store, and they say this particular suspect took a swing at one of the officers and then ran away. they caught up to him in front of that construction company right where that camera was, and that's where we're getting two dif

darcie spencer joins us from upper marlboro well more on this. >> reporter: he was a key witness for the prosecution, and the defense went after him right away, very aggressively saying that he sold his testimony and basically just too save his own skin. now, the defense again went after him very aggressively in this case, and he also had some discrepancies in his testimony in terms of what time he was at certain locations. but that's kind of become a pattern, after all this crime happened seven years ago. mcdonald abraham, who has confessed to hiring a man to kill stacy seton in june 2005 took the stand to pin the murder on this plan, jarvis tyler, who's now on trial for allegedly being the trigger man. abraham's credibility immediately came into question by fiehler's attorneys who pointed abraham's testimony is a plea deal that could land him in prison for as few as 15 years. defense attorney william brennen pointed out that abraham bragged to a friend that he got a sweet deal after turning down offers from prosecutors four 30, 25 and 20 years in prison. the reality is, you cut a d

darcy spencer is live in upper marlboro. darcy? >> reporter: wendy, this woman says she was at the applebee's restaurant the night wesley brown was killed, the trooper. she said she was in the parking lot with the gunman opened fire and she pointed to the defendant in the courtroom and said he was the one who was firing that gun. but the defense team went on the attack asking why she didn't pick him out in a photo lineup as the shooter and why she asked about getting reward money in exchange for her testimony. maryland state police troop err wesley brown was gunned down while working security at applebee's in june of 2010. prosecutors say this man, soro williams pulled the trigger. he's now on trial for murder in prince george's county circuit court. oov karl peeples who was working security with trooper brown that night described how he and the trooper had thrown williams out of the restaurant after receiving a complaint. surveillance video showing the officers's escorting williams outside was shown in court. people said williams
