darcy? >> reporter: good morning, molette. we want to make it very clear that two people were taken into custody as a result of this incident last night and police did find a weapon in that pickup truck. this is adams mill road. you can see this is a trash truck. this is basically where everything came to an end. there was a white pickup truck that crashed into this. the while is basically down on pavement. there was a work crew, it was just about an hour ago that we were able to see the striking pickup truck being towed from the scene here. it was right in the 9:00 hour last night when this pickup came barrelling down 18th and columbia street right there at the main drag intersection here in adams morgan. it's an area that many people go to forth night life and bars. a lot of people saw and heard this impact. two d.c. police officers, they were bicycle officers, were struck and injured. we're told one was thrown some 30 feet. also, again, that transportation worker, all of them, like megan said, have been taken to the hospita

darcy spencer has the details on this breaking story. darcy? >> reporter: erika, there's no other way to describe this other than just a tragic, tragic situation. a short time ago, i was able to speak to a family member of these twins. he confirms that the 2-year-olds are in fact twins. and the tragedy unfolded in a house behind me on acorn court in sterling earlier this morning. the family member tells me that the little boy and girl apparently snuck out of the house. he says that the mom did not know that they had left, and ended up in the pool in their backyard. the pool is surrounded by a privacy fence. she discovered them unconscious around 10:45 this morning, in the pool. medics arrived quickly, the children were transported to the hospital, but sadly the 2-year-old did die. her twin bro clinging to life but in critical condition. the family member tells me, it doesn't look good for him, but this family is hoping and praying for a miracle that this little boy will pull through. the sheriff's office is investigating, they say it appears to

news 4's darcy spencer live on the ground for us. darcy, what can you tell us?i can tell you that this fire happened at the worst possible time, 12:45 in the morning, when many people are asleep. we have two firefighters injured as well as a third person. a by firefighters have already been released from the hospital. let's show you the scene in prince williams territory. it started in one and did spread. a total of five townhouses impacted by this fire. a number of people have been displaced as a result of this early morning fire. i was talking to some of them. they were trying to figure out how exactly it happened and what their next steps are going to be. you can see them here listening. one of the women i talked to in the red jacket said she was asleep at 12:45 this morning when there was a knock on her door from the fire department telling her to get out of the house. she came outside and saw all of the smoke, saul all of the flames. obviously not the way you want to start your day. the good news is there were no serious injuries. two firefighters hurt. the
