darcy spencer's been gathering latest information for us tonight. darcy? >> reporter: jim, this is a complicated story. we're going to make it as simple as we can. sources tell nbc news the fbi recently began investigating complaints from a woman who said she'd been receiving harassing emails. that investigation led to the discovery of emails between petraeus and his biographer that indicated they were having an affair. retired general david petraeus resigns in disgrace from his post as head of the cia after acknowledging what he called unacceptable behavior. he admitted to cheating on his wife of more than 37 years, holley pa trahal holly petraeus. it involved an affair between petraeus and another woman who was not related to petraeus. she complained to the fbi because she felt she was being harassed. the families, officials say, were traced to paula bradwell. that's what led to the discovery of her intimate relationship with the fore-star general. >> it's so politically sensitive that my guess the decision was made near or at the top level of the fbi to

darcy spencer live outside d.c. superior court with new developments in this case. darcy? >> reporter: jim, the two teens appeared right near d.c. superior court earlier this afternoon. they stood side-by-side, but we don't know how they may know one another. one of the attorneys said they both have spotless records. what they're facing in their young lives, murder. a 17-year-old girl charged in the murder of a d.c. cab driver making their way out of d.c. superior court nap after a judge ordered the teen and her 17-year-old co-defendant joshua mub bay mubbane held without bail. police have not officially released his name. >> a nice person. very cheerful with his work. nerve her any problems or anything like that. >> reporter: police found the cabbie's car on fire wednesday night in the 1400 block near gel gallaudet university. died from a gunshot wound to the head. >> initially received some tips, and that led us to then through witness information. >> reporter: authorities say the motive for the kills was robbery. police are still trying to figure out if the car was set

darcy spencer joins us from northwest d.c. >> reporter: i was able to speak to the victim's daughter off camera this evening. she tells me she was able to visit her mom in the hospital. the good news here? she is going to make a recovery. the family says they're very pleased with the exceptional police work that led to this arrest. the daughter of an 81-year-old woman who was robbed and beaten in her own home tells news4 she'll be okay. the victim has lived here for decades and while she's legally blind she's known to take walks every day. >> she's a very fine person, and i'm really sorry that anybody would abuse her like that. >> reporter: police arrest eed 18-year-old, charging him will with burglarizing an occupied home. will they say he punch the victim and walked away with her computer. >> it's a heinous, violent crime. the person who did this as far as i'm concerned is a coward. >> police say he got in through a broken window which is surrounded by bamboo. neighbors tell me the victim planted bamboo around her property years ago and it provides her with privacy. but those same

darcy spencer joins us live with the breaking developments. darcy? >> reporter: jim, i just got off the phone with the d.c. police and i can confirm that an arrest has been made in this case. we're awaiting additional details. but i can tell you the suspect's name is tieran mcelraft, arrested today, just 18 years old, on burglary one. that involved burglary where an assault was involved in that. the victim just 81 years old. police returned to the scene here on mckinley street around 45 minutes ago to collect additional evidence. this crime happened somewhere between 11:45 yesterday morning and 12:30 in the afternoon. the victim, she is blind and she is hard of hearing. the suspect apparently got into her home through a broken basement window. then there was some sort of encounter between that suspect and the victim inside her home. at that point they tell us that she was punched in her head and face. now, yesterday she was found by a mailman here. and he indicated she was barely kpgs. and she was confused. right at her own doorstep. >> the nature of

news4's darcy spencer is live on the campus with new details about the suspect tonight. darcy? >> reporter: it happened in this dormitory right behind me friday afternoon. howard university issued a statement late this afternoon, it says in part that the safety on campus is of a paramount concern. they beefed up security, 24 hours a day. so some students say that they don't feel safe. court documents show a teenage sexual assault suspect wrote down his first name and cell phone number on a piece of paper and gave it to his victim, a 19-year-old student at howard university after allegedly raping her in her dorm room. police tracked that number to an address here on fourth street northwest, where the suspect, 19-year-old demarco miles lives with his mother. he was arrested and charged in two violent attacks on women. >> forhe price that we're paying for this school, and this tuition, it's really horrible the way that we have to honestly live in fear. >> reporter: the first crime happened on friday october 26th at the rhode island row apartments in northeast d.c. just before 2:00
