news 4's darcy spencer is learning more about that individual and we've got a picture of him tonight, as well. darcy? >> reporter: that's right, erica. this could have been a much more serious situation. we had a guy with a loaded handgun on a metro train. in fact, he had already robbed a victim at gun point at the anacostia metro station. apparently, he flashed the gun in his waistband and then stole $40 in cash from that passenger there at the anacostia station and then hopped on a train. let's go to a video of the suspect. he's 20 years old, rondez tibbs of southeast washington. he's been charged with armed robbery and carrying a pistol without a license and he's on probation for another armed robbery and he's already back out on the street. let's show you another photo that was taken yesterday while this was unfolding and it was on a metro train and it was being searched during this investigation. after the robbery in anacostia, two metro employees got involved when he got into an argument with the passengers and one of the employees held down the suspect. when the employee saw th

darcy spencer has more on what happened. >> reporter: i'm darcy spencer along mccomb street in northwest washington. this is where a young woman was sexually assaulted at knifepoint early saturday morning. from what we've been told by d.c. police, the woman had gotten into a car that she mistook for an uber car and once she got into the four-door silver car, that's when the driver pulled a knife and sexually assaulted her. >> fortunately, she was able to get away from that driver, but according to this police report, she left behind some items in that car. that includes her driver's license, a debit card, her house key and her smart trip metro card. now d.c. police are saying that they're still investigating this case. no arrest has been made. coming up on news 4 at 5:00, i'll tell you what she did after the attack and how she got help here in this neighborhood. darcy spencer, news 4. >>> right now things are back to normal for passengers taking southwest airlines after technical glitches led to hundreds of delays over the weekend. yesterday's problem impacted the airline's website, the

news4's darcy spencer is outside the hospital. darcy, what are we learning tonight? >> well, that's exactly right, erica. we don't know what this confrontation was all about, and we still don't know how this patient died. we are hoping to learn a lot more at a press conference that has been scheduled for tomorrow morning here at the hospital. what we do know is that two washington hospital center security guards got into some kind of altercation with a patient at the main entrance of the hospital. that happened tuesday around 5:00. and during the altercation, the patient, who has not been identified, suffered some kind of critical injury. and again, we don't know what that injury was, but he died two days later here at the hospital. an autopsy is going to determine exactly how he died. the two guards have been placed on administrative leave. at this point no charges have been filed. now the hospital released a statement earlier this afternoon. it says in part our highest priority is the care and safety of every patient who comes to us for care. and we are deeply conc

news 4's darcy spencer was at the vigil. >> reporter: that's right. friends and family members want people to know who he was. he wasn't just a young man found dead in a park here in montgomery county. he was someone who was loved and take a look here. you can see dozens of those people among the many who loved this young man who gathered here at this vigil taking place in a basketball court in a local park. this is not where he was found dead. this was being held in another park in burtonsville. we're getting the first look now at this young man's picture. it was provided to me by the family. garrett mcchief was only 22 years old and his mom told me he was a very intelligent young man. in fact, he had won -- earned a full ride academic scholarship to morehouse college and he was found shot and killed tuesday afternoon in edgewood park in the white oak area in montgomery county. relatives say they don't know why he was there at the park or even why this happened. >> garrett has a true spirit. he has an artistic and cree aft spirit that exudes life and

county police officer and a mysterious good samaritan who has been identified tonight as news4's darcy spencer tells us, this is no ordinary good samaritan. darcy? >> reporter: doreen, that good samaritan is actually a firefighter/emt who lives in arkansas. he was here in maryland over the weekend for the national fallen firefighters memorial service. his dad had died in the line of duty a year ago. the president attended that service. the emt was headed down here on i-270 when he saw that baby in distress. and he tells me tonight that this was all fate. this is baby kenzlee mae in her hospital gown, doing just fine. her mom and dad breathing a huge sigh of relief and thanking the police and firefighters who saved the 9-month-old baby girl's life. kenzlee was riding in the car with her grandparents on i-270 on sunday when she became unresponsive. her granddad pulled into the median, where officer james harman had made a traffic stop. kenzlee's grandma rushed her to the officer who began cpr, reviving the little girl within minutes. >> it was amazing how fast the baby came back. the eyes came b

news 4's darcy spencer joins us live from inova fairfax hospital where some of the children were treated. darcy? >> doreen, that's right. a little bit of good news. students brought here to this hospital were treated and released earlier this afternoon. the news is not as good for the other students and the two that were flown to hospitals in washington, one remains in critical condition and the other in fair condition. this afternoon, i spoke to one of the many teachers who found herself comforting her students. >>> students at woodson high school in fairfax county had to be comforted as they learned about their classmates being wheeled out on stretchers and two being flown to hospitals in washington. >> there were some descriptions of what actually took place in the classroom from some of the kids that were in there that were sort of scary so i think kids got upset. >> reporter: kathy thompson is an orc eeorcesest ra teacher sae students were n't able to concentrate. >> they're glued to their phones trying to get whatever information through social media that they could. >> i didn't kn

darcy spencer went back to that park and spoke to his daughter. ♪ >> that somebody, oh, god will callauthorities so that we can reunite him with his family, god. >> reporter: a group of family and friends gather for a prayer and candlelight vigil. their numbers are small but their hope is strong that their loved one, 80-year-old lubin phipps, will be found safe. >> it's been three weeks and, you know, we're just trying to stay positive. >> reporter: mr. phipps' daughter says her dad suffers from dementia. he went missing from watkins regional park on september 18th, under an assisted living center. he was here at the park at picnic area zero. they were having a picnic for senior citizens that day. at one point he asked if he could use the bathroom. he walked away and simply vanished. his daughter says she doesn't know if her father made it to the bathroom. she says mr. phipps is a resident of woodmore house are keeping up their search, every day, in the park and surrounding areas. using flyers and social media. hoping he'll turn up somewhere, hoping their prayers will be answered. dar

darcy spencer is at the inova fairfax hospital and we start with meagan fitzgerald live outside. what's the latest in the. >> pat, the fairfax county fire chief this was a teacher-led experiment happening in a first-floor classroom inside a chemistry classroom. he said the teacher was mixing different chemicals with fire to show the different colors of fire when somehow it got out of control. he says this was an accident. chopper 4 was flying above the school as the 2400 students were evacuating. fire officials say when crews arrived on scene five injured students and a teacher were if the hallway. two students with serious burns were airlifted and three others were rushed to the hospital by ambulance and their teacher was treated on scene. fairfax county fire and rescue chief richard bower says crews worked quickly to extinguish the flames inside the classroom. he spoke with us just moments ago. >> and during that instruction of demonstrating the different types of colors of fire, several students, unfortunately, were burned as well as the teacher. now the chief says about 50% o

darcy spencer has the latest tonight from the fire station. >> well, that's right.this is an agreement that's been in the works like you said, more than ten years. this is something that's been brewing because firefighters were working without overtime pay. and they've been working on this for some time, so it really was a celebration today. this settlement agreement involved $45 million that's going to be paid out to these firefighters. again, for the overtime pay, we're involving about 3,000 firefighters. they're expected to get this money by the end of the year. each check will be in the thousands of dollars. and there will be an appeal process for any firefighter who feels like their amount is not enough. >> thank you so much. >>> it was a great day for the 19th annual walk to end hiv. 7,000 people were on freedom plaza early this morning to take part. this year's theme, superheroes don't fly, they walk to end hiv. >> we're here really to just say that anybody can be a hero in the fight against hiv. just get tested, know your status and people who have hiv, if t

darcy spencer has more on what happened next. >> reporter: pat, definitely a frightening situation. that sexual assault victim ran to a house right here on mccomb street looking for help early saturday morning. i was able to speak to the man who answered the door and she was very distraught and he called police to get her help here right away. we know that this young victim ended up here on mccomb street near the national cathedral between 3:30 and saturday mofshing, but we're not sure where she got that car or if she had used the uber app. >> she mistook a four-door car for hire, and when she got in, the man, the driver sexually assaulted her at knife point. we spoke to a neighbor today who was very concerned about young women, including her daughter using car for hire services. >> with these people, make sure to check their license plate when it's dark. it is not easy, but it must be done. it must be done because a lot of people use -- young people use uber. >> reporter: for more safety information go to the nbc washington app and use the car for hire safety. coming up at 6:00, th
