we went to the border with darfur. we were in chad and we said hey, can you take us across the border? and they said, well, there's a russian aircraft flying overhead and it's possible that government will bomb if they see people going over to the site the we said, well we have to go there if you want to report on what happened. and president bashir, the sudanese president was denying it saying absolutely no soldiers were killed. so we decided to go in the back of trucks with the rebels and we went there, and there were bodies everywhere as far as one could see. there were dozens and dozens of bodies, and it was an incredible sight. and that picture appeared on the front page of "the new york times" and it was impossible for bush year to deny what it happen. to be it was a perfect example of the power of photography and the power of document and being there. in 2008 i got a call from dexter, a very well-known war correspondent, and he was a very good friend and we've worked together extensively in iraq and afghanistan.
