so darity is such a nice and such a big word but when it comes down to the nitty gritty to the money on the table what european leaders tend to do and that what that's what they have done been doing for decades is there look to their own interests they look to their own national budget and then they forget about solidarity they just see what they can take from the european union and not what they have to give back and that whole spirit simply isn't there and the 2nd big problem here is the so-called rule of law hungary and poland notably more and more moving away from democratic rule off the european union's they are put on in the european treaty they are blights to base them but they do increasingly they move away now the money is supposed to be tied to that rule of law and hungary say no that is a bridge that is very difficult to to sort of build because the french president said we need to keep the call values of the e.u. and the other say forget it all we want is the money the european union is our a.t.m. and so we're just waiting for disbursement from brussels and that is a real

mr president you say that this fight for most of the darity. is also an attempt. at shying to identify what the year is just a market or is indeed a political project. some. may well feel that this victory in a way. is time ish by the fact that you had to make so many concessions what you reply to these people those who are disappointed in what. actions do you have the impression that here and your partners are. actually a well for one needs to do in order to come to. in order to make you turn your of into a geopolitical force me i would not say that this victory is time issued by the commission concessions that we made 27 member states around this table and we were able to set up a common budget which other a european which other political entity or which other political area is able of doing that yes it is an obvious road that manesar travel it's not perfect it is very difficult but there is no perfection because there are so many. diverse. standpoint so many opinions philosophies. so many differences and i also said that there are certain areas as. well maybe o

and and i guess that touches a little bit about my earlier question about old darity -- solidarity.we need a new philosophy that could mote rate people? -- motivate people? >> the $64,000 question. i think that what's really held back performance politics for the past decade is this idea that you fix things with policies. there's a problem. we have a policy, we have an rct score. that's what you saw in both the clinton campaign and also the warren campaign. and it doesn't sum to a politics. but the problem is what do you mean by that? so people say, well, you need some kind of project, things people can believe, etc. absolutely. if we think about the reformist projects of the 20th century, it's not as if the social democrats in sweden came out with a giant plan with multimedia trying to get people to invest in things. they basically said, look, it's very simple, survival and fairness. that's it, that's all we're canning for, and here are some things that we needed to do to our economy to become kind of normalized for everyone. that's relatively uncontroversial. i think went up too m
