her godmother, darlene love, is joining us now from new york.arlene, our deepest condolences going out to you and other family members who are grieving on this very heavy day. what are your immediate thoughts about whitney houston? >> i met whitney when she was 8 years old. i was working for dionne warwick and cissy, myself and deedee, dionne's sister, we were the background singers. i felt when i met her, i loved her so much, she was such a sweetheart. had an unbelievable smile that i dubbed her my god daughter. i said i don't know how many you have, you're going to be my god daughter. >> she had a lot. aretha franklin among those as godmothers. >> yeah. and which is fine because we all loved her so much. she had an unbelievable smile that filled up a whole room. there is a song out by gospel singer kirk franklin called "smile." if you listen to the lyrics of that song, you'll see -- you'll see -- we call her nippy. you'll see nippy in that whole song. it is just wonderful. >> amazing smile and i must say that her teeth to me have always just b

darlene was a members of the jobs council. it's been embraced by nam. this is a focus on advanced manufacturing jobs, using community colleges as ways to get people trained in six weeks, up and going v going, to have great skills, advanced skills. it's got a tremendous small business focus. and there's literally hundreds of different ideas on how to leverage community colleges and ways to drive jobs. i travel the world, spent a lot of time outside the united states. everybody around the world has an employment issue. yet very few people know where the open jobs are and know how to get people trained for those jobs. the left-hand side i think championed by small business, embraced by big companies, focused on community colleges as to a way to get people with the right skills now employed and in the job area. the right-hand side was the brain child of paul owed linney from intel. the idea is how do you get 10,000 more engineers graduating in this country. we graduate about 135,000 engineers in the united states every year. china and india together graduat
