only 167 people have landed the dream job as member of studio 8h, among them darrell hammond who has dent al gore and president donald trump. hammond has performed for four presidents and is now the show's announcer, and darrell hammond joins me now for a live, meet the moment conversation. darrell, darrell hammond, welcome to meet the press. >> ello, kristen. >> you were on 14 seasons of those years. talk about why you think this show has been so beloved for half a century. >> because it's so well done, that's why. i was backstage at radio city music hall concert the other night moving 35 bas in and out of that place and timing it all down to the second. it is so well done, you know? all the best comics in the world, all of the best singers in the world. all of the best dancers in the world. >> yeah. >> it's just so well done. >> it's the precision. you are absolutely right in all of the characters. you've played so many of them, president bill clinton, george w. bush, donald trump. do you have a favorite? what's your favorite political impersonation? >> well, you know, we sort of li

you know, darrell hammond's, uh, you know, impersonation of al gore is this sort of stiff guy who is overly focused on minutia, kind of, you know, i mean, you know, i've always heard this story reported in the new york times that al gore's advisers had him watch darrell hammond, satirization of him so he would know what not to do in the next vice president. so these these impressions could be very powerful. but now we have a president in donald trump who's very adept at creating his own imagery. and i think this show has sort of struggled to deal with a president who, in real life often seems so outrageous. he's very hard to parody. >> wow. interesting. well, snl, we love them and we've loved them all these years. eric deggans, we love you too. thank you so much. >> oh, thank you so much. it's so much fun to join you. >> oh, it's great to have you. all right. comic trio roy wood jr.. amber ruffin and michael ian black are back for a brand new season of have i got news for you with guest comedian and actor andy richter and attorney george conway. you can stream right now on cnn max. >

darrell hammond was a great bill clinton impersonator, did phenomenal skits, bipartisan. everybody loved him. that's not this. it has become so pointed. and i do agree, i think it reflects that these folks are really out of touch, particularly after november 5th, with where the rest of america is. >> but they had kamala harris. impersonations in there. i think they have it both. >> ways. on snl. >> yeah, they give it both ways. >> and it's 2016. why that? why that year for you? >> this was also, by the way. >> he did the skit. >> in. >> 2016 and he did it in. >> so you're saying it's not funny anymore after? >> i'm saying i never really found it funny and i do. i just think when you look at the history of snl and what they've done with politicians, whether it was dana carvey or darrell hammond and it was bipartisan, people liked it. this is much more pointed and towards donald trump and his supporters. >> i mean, i agree, they can't they can't keep going after the democrats. i agree with that. they need to be i mean, after. >> the republicans. >> it needs. >> to be more.
