we hand it over to first alert meteorologist darren peck. >> to give you the perspective of where the smoke is coming from, this is a look from where the plume is coming from the oak fire, and here we are, bay area, and you can see the beautiful marine layer out there, and a little perspective of how much smoke the fire is putting out there in the atmosphere, and where it is going from our concern, and if you are watching the high resolution forecast, for the rest of today, we are fine and the rest of monday, okay, but there is going to be a shift of the wind in the next 48 hours, and by monday evening a lot of the smoke is being pulled in our direction, but that is the entire column of the smoke in the atmosphere. what we care about is what is down on the ground. and in other words, what could get directly into our lungs, which is a better story, because if we are just liking at that layer, most of the smoke is staying in sierra. we will be watching that closely, and i will have more on the oak fire coming up in the complete forecast, and in the meantime, the temperatures are coming

how did you get chosen to review darren byler's two books dealing with china? well, i i think that the reason i was asked to do it the la review of books approached me and and i commissioned me to do it and i think the reason they were interested in me is that i'm actually not a historian of china darren beiler has written about the the internment of the week of people's in western china, which is something that i don't know a whole lot about but something that i do know a lot about is the history of concentration camps. i'm currently writing a book called camps mask confinement in the modern world, which is a sort of long jury history of the camp from it's early origins in the 19th century all the way up until today. and so i think they were looking for someone outside the the field of chinese history and indeed they were looking for historian rather than anthropologist and ethnography which is what the author of the books being reviewed is so they were looking i think for an outsider who could provide a new perspective to rephrase to reframe some of the argum

yes i this is darren. yes it is. darren, i was just, i was just saying to look at it. it seems the supreme court a sided with those conservative states and those fossil fuel companies. what, what impact is this ruling gonna have then on biden's climate plans? do we think, you know, i just wanted to share with you 1st, the, one of the dissenting justices atlanta keegan, and they're kagan and she, she wrote it very thankfully. and she said today the court strips, the environmental protection agency of the power congress gave it to respond to the most pressing environmental challenge of our time. and as a climate social scientist though, i would even just say the most pressing challenge of our time. so what this means for, for biden's goal, for the clean power, this is her aggressive action in a time when we need very progressive even radical action towards renewable energy infrastructure towards large scale carbon removal towards helping communities through the just transition away from fossil fuels. this is a step in the wrong direction, and many people have been saying

. >> let's go straight to the one who knows about our air quality, that's darren peck. i guess we should be bracing for tomorrow. >> i'm going to show you what happened in tahoe today. their sunrise, that's all smoke. looks pretty weird. but these are images we got used to seeing on almost a regular basis up there over the last few years. and the air quality, in fact, we can switch over to the weather computer. these are the right-now readings. look how all that red is just kind of congregated right down in the basin, which really does act like a bull and it traps bad air quality. we're not going to get that bad. but if we take a look at that plume of smoke coming off of the oak fire, the deeper the shade of red and purposefule, the hig the concentration of smoke. the flow in the atmosphere bng smoke our way. and you'll see why tuesday morning is probably the time frame when we start to notice this more. now, most of this is going to be elevated. and we should not have a significant inundation of smoke down here at the ground. if we look at this a different way, instead

we are bringing back darren porcher former law enforcement lieutenant.re. we have information but we don't have a lot. knowing you what know now what can you tell us about where you think things are in the investigation? >> thanks for having me. i actually think we have a lot considering we have a weapon in possession of law enforcement because what that now allows officers to do is assess the serial number in that partnership between local law enforcement and federal law enforcement such as atf would be paramount in a situation like this because we can conduct a gun trace on the weapon n. addition to that we can sweep the weapon for dna evidence such a fingerprints so we can put that in the dna database to see if we establish a hit so we have a credible lead in terms who the suspect is. because generally when we have mass shooters they don't go far on the lam before they're captured and taken in custody. >> darren you heard police say there was a rifle them. could not comment on the type of magazine or the number of weapons that the suspect had. is that

. >>> it's a little bit cooler out there, so, darren, big question, i know you've probably been askedmillion times today. what's it going to look like tonight? l go to the camera that sits on top of sutro looking over golden gate bridge and it's a time lapse of about the last hour and a half. if you go back an hour and a half ago, looked fine. but if you play it forward, you can see how quickly things start to change so i'm going to play that and you're going to watch it basically appear out of thin air before your eyes. that's that real low stratus cloud just kind of trapped within the marine layer. that's how these things tend to develop. and the problem with that, here's another vantage point from the top of salesforce tower looking back at the bridge, the problem with that is, that deck of clouds is fairly low, below the towers of the golden gate bridge which sits 740 feet high so that says a lot about how low that particular batch of clouds is. it's likely that will have an impact to some degree on the fireworks in the 9:00 hour from pier 39, the big show. so, cloud base at about

let's check in with your weekend forecast with darren peck. >> hey, good morning. it's going to get a little warmer out there this morning, justin. temperatures will climb gradually the next several days and we have to start getting ready for low 90s again, which sounds far more dramatic than it is. we've had it really good for the last week or so with temperatures coming in below average. now there's a little bit of a warmup for sunday and monday, but not even as hot as we've been earlier in the season. we've been much hotter already this summer than we're about to get. real beauty view looking out over the city. early morning light is just starting to stream in on the horizon. you can pick it out from the top of the mark hopkins hotel. you can also see a few of the clouds streaming in over the immediate city. they haven't made it to the bay bridge or the east bay, but it is cloudy coming in over the golden gate bridge this morning, just right in through the golden gate. everyone else is waking up to enclosure skies. temperatures ranging from the low to mid-50s. i

darren, thanks so much for coming on. what you make of this? >> well, it's pretty remarkable.let's take all of this in. the one person caught repeatedly urging people into the capitol as early as january 5th is the one person of all of the januar. to that "the new york times" just happens to write this ultra sympathetic puff piece for. it's quite remarkable, and to look at the piece itself, as you suggested in your intro, there's some real glaring omissions from a journalistic standpoint to have access to the sky. number one, in the entire piece, there is no blanket explicit denial on the part of epps to have been associated with any intelligence group my dhs, j.t. tf, military intelligence, so forth, just reiterates is very legal denial of being involved with law enforcement. number two, the piece describes epps as of trump supporter. he just went to d.c. to defend trump and to attend the speech on a last minute thing with his son to attend the speech on election fraud. the only thing is, epps didn't attend the speech. epps travels all the way from arizona to d.c., this big t
