how did you get chosen to review darren byler's two books dealing with china? well, i think that the reason i was asked to do it the la review of books approached me and and i commissioned me to do it and i think the reason they were interested in me is that i'm actually not a historian of china darren beiler has written about the the internment of the week of people's in western china, which is something that i don't know a whole lot about but something that i do know a lot about is the history of concentration camps. i'm currently writing a book called camps mask confinement in the modern world, which is a sort of long jury history of the camp from it's early origins in the 19th century all the way up until today. and so i think they were looking for someone outside the the field of chinese history and indeed they were looking for historian rather than anthropologist and ethnography which is what the author of the books being reviewed is so they were looking i think for an outsider who could provide a new perspective to rephrase to reframe some of the argumen

darren, how is our weather looking for this weekend?ly pretty from the camera on black mountain on west side of santa clara valley. you can see some of the communities on the east edge, allen rock we're looking out your way there. but on west side of the vale, closer to the foothills of where the cameras lives, there's plenty of mid-level stratus in the south bay and looking above it there's high clouds. we're still in this kind of unique pattern here where we get our usual marine layer. that's not the unique part about today. that stuff up there is, the high clouds, which are still getting thrown our way from a complex of large thunderstorms off to our east. we're not going to feel the humidity as much today, but you're still going have an interesting looking sky even when we get into the afternoon and the low stratus cloud goes back to the beaches. we'll still have the high clouds around. there will be thunderstorms just off to the east again today from an active desert southwest summer pattern that's trying to throw us their weather.

let's get right to to first alert meteorologist darren peck. >> it was between 9:00 and a.m. this morning. the peninsula and and the city got some rain. since about 10:00 this morning, things have started to quiet down. with a look at first alert alert doppler, there is still plenty of lightning on the other other side of the state and some some showers showing up on first first alert doppler, we are not really seeing the likelihood of thunderstorms as widespread as we were this morning. we will still watch it for the next few hours. we will still stay on guard. and he lightning strikes at higher elevations could be a concern. we dodged a bullet earlier in the morning from that. we still have the other issue, the heat advisory stays in effect until 8:00 on friday for solano county. i know we will talk about the heat and the the stress on the power grid coming up in the rest of the newscast but solano county, you still have significant heat. we will look at that in the forecast in a bit. > >> in the next hour, state officials say you really need to to cut down on energy usage.

yeah, darren, there are a lot of unanswered questions. your 1st, there's cost. these vehicles are expensive. you could it cost it up to $135000.00 somewhere in the range between say, 40 and over a $100000.00 for an electric vehicle. so they're not cheap. and that raises questions of maybe there will have to be subsidies for, for families that don't earn a lot of money and so on. then there is the question of charging right now. we have a lot of gasoline selling stations in california around the country. not so many evie charging station. so that's gonna at the change is going to have to be a very rapid expansion of the infrastructure of charging electric cars. the, the rules state that each car will be required to have durable batteries and the batteries will have to be capable of taking of, of a journey of 150 miles or 240 kilometers on each charge. um, i think there is some hope that improving battery technology will make it easier for cars to go longer distances. and then the, there's the as, as well, you know, the, the, the question of, of, of whether people
