jordan, she joins us from washington, d.c. talk us through what the u.s. has decided to do? >> well, what the u.s. has decided to do, darren, is to send 150 pai 150 paratroopers fe 173rd. first poland, lithuania, latvia, they will all be on the ground by the end of this week. by sunday night according to the pentagon. they are going to be there in open ended rotating exercises. it's assumed they will have a full compliment of weapons with them, that this would not be just dry drills with their counterparts in those four countries. this is a step which the secretary of defense chuck hagel has authorized as a way of the u.s. showing that it is, indeed, committed to article 5 of the n.a.t.o. charter which said that it's going to be able to provide support and help defend its allies as part of the n.a.t.o. alliance. >> roslind, why didn't the americans do this through a n.a.t.o. organized umbrella? >> reporter: well, what the pentagon is saying, darren, this is not an either/or situation. the supreme allied commander of n.a.t.o. forces, has already come up with a list of options for n.a.t.o. to carry out as an alliance, but th
