darren peck is standing by on the embarcadero. so what are conditions like out there right now?>> reporter: not too bad, in fact, this rain kind of brings to mind that old tale, whether it's true or not, that the eskimos have 50 different words for snow. i feel like over the last few days you can do the same thing for rain. i know you will focus on the potential for heavier rain here overnight, but i want to show you what we were up against. if you look at the satellite view of california today, then you know doubt have heard the words last week. that's what we looked like from space today, and you can see for yourself. see that conveyor belt where the clouds are pile driving right into the california coastline. that is where the more steady rain is and that's where you will see nonstop, continuous rain, for two days if it stalls over you. and our luck is the fact that that happened over big sur and over san luis obispo. that's where it was expected to happen. we are not done with this, so we will track what comes next in more detail coming up a little later in the forecast. >>

meteorologist darren peck is in for mary lee. hi darren. >> good afternoon michelle. if you look over my shoulder you can see the leading edge of the rainmaker. an impressive line of clouds off the coast. we can see the rain showing up right there. that's going to take a little while before it gets here. for most of the rest of today while it is daylight hours it's just clouds like we are seeing now. if we put this in futurecast and play it forward, by the time we have gotten to 6:00 this evening there is a good band of rain and it comes right through sonoma county. by 8:00 or 9:00, down to the golden gate. my midnight, you see that well organized line. it works down into the south bay by the time we've gotten to 4:00 or 5:00 a.m. there is not a lot left by the time it gets there. by sunrise it is done. we'll have plenty left over clouds for saturday. but we are not getting a lot of rain out of this one, maybe .05 in the north bay. monday's rain looks better. i will show you that coming up in the complete forecast in just a few minutes. back to you. >>> i am anne mako

meteorologist darren peck is tracking the rain and the wet week ahead. >> there's a lot coming our way. so what i want to do now in this visit is just simplify things and give you the headlines that matter the most. first order up is tomorrow. the first storm gets here. but it's a weak one. we will get some light, moderate rainfall. we could get an isolated thunderstorm tomorrow. but, it is like a quarter of an inch of rain from the late morning through the afternoon. sunday is not that big of a deal. on monday, we will feel the winds on the backside of that system. and, there is a wind advisory for the city. much of the coast. gusts to 40 miles an hour. that may be a factor. monday will not be the nicest day to get outside. then we get to the main event. and that's coming for tuesday night through thursday. this is the one you are hearing so much about. this one has the potential to bring two to four inches of rain not just to the mountains but to the cities in and around the bay area. rainfall totals look impressive. here is concern number one. that's the burn scar in the santa cruz
