let's check the weather with meteorologist darren peck. >> you can see on high- definition doppler we had a little missed, it is not organized rain which is still up here and future cost sees it beautifully, plays this forward and by the time we get to 8:00 that is working its way into the north bay. and from that point on until noon, it will march his way across the entire bay area. we will not get a lot of rain out of this but you'll notice things get wet. maybe one quarter of energy ran around santa rosa, more detail coming up. but that is a quick overview. >>> police in the east they are grappling with the spike in serious crimes being committed by children. this video was captured in san leandro showing two children running up to a man on pershing avenue. the child is armed with a gun and the victim is heard saying are you serious before he body slams the young suspect. the suspect screams while his accomplice begs the victim to let him go but the san leandro police said the payer took off in a white kia suv also used earlier that day on april night in attempted robbery at an atm

know so far about investigations underway in oakland good morning it is sunday april 11th, i am darren peck. let's check the weather and this will be a replay of yesterday. top headlines just like yesterday. we will keep low clouds mostly east bay and i will show you that coming up, even those do not last long. gusting near the water but more so along the coast today than anywhere else. lighter wind today than it has been the past several days so it will be slightly warmer today in the bay and it looks pretty from atop the salesforce tower. temperatures ranging from 37 around the north bay to 50 in the east bay, and we get back into the upper 70s for daytime highs, plenty of sunshine inland and upper 60s for the day. more later. >>> oakland police are investigating a pair of shootings that in happened within three hours of each other late last night. the first was just before 7:00 on havens court boulevard. a man was pronounced dead at the scene and several streets were shut down for officers canvassed for witnesses and looking for video surveillance. the second shooting happened before 9:0

let's start with a check of the weather with meteorologist darren peck. >> there is a chance we could see a few light showers as early as today. should we do that, it will mainly be in the northbay. it will be cloudy for much of today. light rain possible for saturday but widespread rain for sunday. really focused on the first half of the day tomorrow. we will go into the details on that in the cleat forecast, coming up in a bit. it is cloudy out there today. whether it is the mid-level stratus clouds overhead for many of us or the higher clouds coming in on the leading edge of this next rainmaker, it is cloudy. apertures out there for the most part in the low 50s. for now, back over to you. >>> warriors fans are finally back at chase center. giants of the warriors posts played games last night. some bay area basketball fans, it was the first chance and more than a year to see the warriors in person. getting to the door at chase center takes either a completed vaccine card or a negative covid test. the warriors are covering the tests either through mail-in kits or on-site rapid tests.

our meteorologist darren peck is in for paul tonight.o we are hearing that some areas could hit 90 degrees. >> yes, but that is only a few of the extreme spots, and that does not happen until sunday. and that is really what the focus is. the warm-up coming our way as we get into the weekend. the rest of the work week will pretty much be average. 69 degrees is the average, where were we today? 73. i'm using concord as an example. watch what happens over the next few days. that line really takes off. by the time we've got to sunday, concord, you are one of those few spots that could hit 90. most other places for inland parts of the bay area come in at the upper 80s. if we jump ahead to sunday, and it is too early for sunday, it is a little too far out. but this is the possibility, so it's good to start talking about it now. if we hit 90 in concord, what is the record? it's 87. so we will beat that. san jose, 85, 91 is your record. san francisco, you will miss it. 78 degrees on sunday will still be a noticeably warm day in the city. i will

. >> darren peck is standing by, and we were just looking at that shortcoming the other way. across the bay you can even see some fog sneaking in. >> that is a sign of the pattern that is changing for us. one thing that stands out about watching that marine layer creeping in, it is kind of high. typically you can see it come in, it obscures the bridge and is down on the roadway. this one is fairly elevated. and that is tied to the weather pattern we are caught in right now. there is a huge area of low pressure dominating much of the western u.s.. you would never know what here in the tri-valley. but if you look at the big picture, it is snowing in the sierra. this is not going to make up for the deficit in our snowpack, but it was enough to mess with the drive today and make for pretty pictures in the sierra. and if you see this on the real big picture, there's the storm. big area of low pressure, so that's why we got snow in the sierra. we did not get any rain in the bay area. that storm was too far inland, and inside slider. but we still felt its presence. and now the marin

now to meteorologist darren peck. pretty cool out there today. >> yes. by this time yesterday we were still gray. now we have seen the marine layer melt back all the way to the immediate coast, unless you are in sonoma county where there is some leftover for sonoma and napa, but that is disappearing quickly. a pretty video you of it from the top of the mark hopkins hotel, our camera taking a look from the east. that is one view. and this is another view from the top of the salesforce tower. but here, the east bay is looking great. that is 880. and even further inland, the tri-valley we have broken into the sunshine quite a while ago. it has had an impact on the temperatures so far. we already made it to 60 in livermore. 61 in san francisco. the marine layer has a stronghold on you near the coast and it will stay that way. tomorrow we will take the marine layer from where it is now, play it through today to tonight. this is 2:00 in the morning on wednesday. it is widespread once again. stays with us through much of wednesday morning, then wednesday late m

. >> darren peck is in for paul this evening. and darren, you were saying the snow is melting at a record pace right now in the sierra. >> yeah, liz, on the other side of the state some unprecedented changes to tell you about. in the sierra snow pack just over to last three weeks. looks great when you look at it from space, but you're only seeing the surface level of the snow, which you have to cor is how much water is being stored in that snow pack. that's what matters most to us. on april 1st, when we did our snow survey, we were at 63% of average. we'd like more, but that doesn't sound that bad. in the last three weeks, that number has gone down to 37% of average. it should have stayed close to 63%. we were just talking about what's the percent of water there in comparison to what average would be for today's date. we were at 63% then. that number should have tracked closely to, that but something happened over the last three weeks. if you look at the sierra as a whole -- i know the dots are small on from, but each one shows yo

darren peck is tracking our summer like temperatures. >> it didn't look like that at all in dolores yester today the temperatures turned thrninbut it tch. wasn't enough to keep the warm up confined. yesterday it was all about the warm up that happened inland. but today was san jose, oakland, and san francisco that did the biggest jump from one day to the next. all three locations. either 11 or 12 degrees warmer than we were yesterday. that's enough to grab your attention when you're outside. not to say we didn't warm up over yesterday for concord, santa rosa, and livermore. we did. we went up another 7 or 8 degrees. but you did most of the warming up yesterday. the winners are by far inland. concord hit 90 today. still waiting for the officials from the national weather service, but so far at the airport we've gotten 90 recorded there. so let's use that as the example. what would average be for a location like concord this time of year? 70. and showing the arcing orange line, we go from 90 to 83 today, and mid to upper 70s much of next week. we never get back to average. not in this seven-

darren peck is here to break it down. >> for obvious reasons, the snowpack in the sierra is at the front lines for the changes happening in our state from climate change. but what has happened over the last three weeks has water content. on april 1st we were at 63% of average, that was the big snowpack report. it wasn't that bad. today it is that 37%. that is a huge drop. and those numbers should have stayed about the same. we were just talking about where that water content is right now. to lose that much is unprecedented. in fact, if you look at the sensors across the sierra, the ones that have red circles on them, those are the locations in the area that just set the record for the fastest loss of water content since we've been keeping records, for the first three weeks in april. there is a lot that goes into this, but the number one culprit behind this is how warm we were for the month of april. these are the temperatures for the month, all the deep shades edow at least 4 degrees above average. i will be back with the rest of the forecast coming up in a few minutes. >>> for continuin

but as darren peck will tell us, things are about to change. >>> we are going to go a little bit more than most places. this was a one day temperature spike. it was 55 for the daytime high on saturday. to th was one of the lower numbers. look at the daytime highs for the bay area, santa rosa and concord both hit 90 today. 88 in livermore, 83 in san jose. from here the numbers will start coming back down. if we take a look at the inland locations, think about 90 in concord, 70 is an average daytime high right now for those locations. we will be back in the mid-70s by the middle part of this week don't get all the way down to average. san jose will get to average. your line takes you all the way down to in a relatively cool 70. i will be back with the complete forecast in a bit, we will talk about any hope for rain. >>> ow virr ct clos l. hundreds rallied sunday ahead of a possible verdict. the former minneapolis police officer is charged with george floyd's death for kneeling on his neck after more than nine minutes. after 14 days of witness testimony, the state and defense rested thei

darren peck is in the weather center with a first look at the week what we can forecast. >> how little rain we've had that we will start of our newscast tonight with this. you can see high def doppler has a little bit of rain up the coast because this is just the leading edge pick we have to take a look at the bigger picture. that is the main and of rain and that gets here for the bulk of tomorrow. really the first half of the day on sunday. this will be widespread rain for the entire bay area. when you look at the totals this is not a drenching but we are going to pick up perhaps close to about a quarter of an inch of rain and some of the heavier spots and closer to about a 10th of an inch of rain down in the southbay. take this into consideration for any plans you have for sunday. bay area wide to be on the roads because this will be enough rain to slow things down with the bulk of this coming between about sunrise and noon. it is not mean we won't see rain outside of that window but that is really the best bet. sunrise to about noon and in the southbay may be a few ntilu e what is t

let get right to meteorologist darren peck. >> the rain we have seen like on that lens is pretty much a steady mist. the kind of stuff you can't measure. nonetheless, it is wet out there already. however, that is the main 8:00 start to march that line of rain aross the entire area. to give you a quick overlook, at how much rain we will get out of this,10thto a quarter inch of rain throughout the bay area. we can't rule out the possibility of stray showers in the second half of the day. maybe even an isolated thunderstorm just off to the northeast parts of the bay area. i will go into all the details on that and we need to talk about the snow in the sierra. i will see you with all that in the complete forecast in a few minutes. >>> new at 11:00, an alarming trend in the east bay. police are seeing more children as young as ten years old committing serious crimes. kpix5 is in san leandro with more on what can be done to stop these crime sprees. >> reporter: police say there is certainly an up tick in violent crimes committed by groups of young people in san leandro and oakland. the poli

meteorologist darren peck is here with our forecast, darren? >> you know the main thing about tomorrow is we pull back the clouds. first part of the morning is gray for easter. not going to deal with fog, but you see already starting to develop over part of the bay today. they're just going to get more widespread, thicken up, and as we take a look ahead at the futurecast, watch what happens as you see the clouds overtake most locations for tomorrow. now, this doesn't have a major impact on temperatures. in fact, if we take a look at where we're going to be for temperatures tomorrow, inland, daytime high tops out at 66. cloudy as we start out the morning, we covered that. we burn the clouds off easily by 10:00, and 66 should be right in line with where you were today. if we do the comparison for the bay and look at the numbers, a little bit cooler here. daytime high here 61. be back with the rest of the forecast in a bit. for now, brian, back to you. >> thanks, darren. >>> now to sonoma county where two women are dead after a suv careened off a

meteorologist darren peck joins us with just how warm it's going to be on sunday, darren?nd is a really good example of how different things can be in the bay area from one side to the other. look how much we warmed up today from yesterday. santa rosa, it was 13 degrees warmer on saturday than it was on friday. that was a huge difference. meanwhile, san francisco had no change. oakland warmed up 2 degrees. and just to show you where these numbers actually were today for daytime highs, it was low 80s for many inland spots. mid-50s in the bay. let me show you what happens now over the next five days. i'm going to use that concord example as kind of the example for most inland spots. 70 would be average. we made it up to a daytime high today of just about 83. and tomorrow we're going to get warmer. 87. that is going to be the peak. most inland spots tomorrow will be mid to upper 80s. that is well above normal. it won't be that dramatic in the bay, but warmer there as well. i'll show you all of that and the rest of the seven-day in a few minutes. back to you. >> thank you, dar

here is darren peck. good morning. >> good morning.e are coming up on sunrise in just about 30 minutes or so. that will happen at 6:47 this morning. we are seeing some light breakthrough from our cameras. if we look at the van teenage point we got from our view that over looks the city from the top of the mark hopkins hotel, plenty of clouds out there this morning. much like yesterday we are all waking up to gray skies. it won't last as long today as it did yesterday. we will clear these clouds back sooner. we will get it back to the beaches by late afternoon. look at the pay off of the clouds. it is relatively warm out there this morning. coldest spot is in the mid 40s up in the north bay. if you watch the future cast on the clouds, slowly dissolving as we get towards about 9:00, 10:00 in the morning. most of us should be looking at clear keys if not breaking up the clouds and getting to clear. with the more sunshine, the daytime highs get higher. inland locations will warm up to the low 70s to day. 68 would be an average daytime high
