and darren peck has been keeping an eye on those conditions. >> we could probably think of this as like a training run to get reacquainted with smoke inundation into the bay area. there's the big view by the way. here we are with our beautiful healthy natural marine layer. that is the smoke coming off of the washburn fire. we're going to switch the view now instead of looking at updating realtime high-resolution satellite, here's high-resolution forecast modeling on where that smoke is going to go. the deeper the shade of red and purple, the higher the concentration of smoke. if that fire keeps putting out the same amount of smoke, the winds in the atmosphere are going to shift over the next 24 hours, and that's going to start bringing some of the smoke our way. that's tomorrow morning. when you look at a smoke forecast, there are two distinct ways to look at it. you can look at the entire column of the atmosphere, which tells you something about the direction. but ultimately what you care about is how much smoke will actually down at ground level where we all breathe this stuff in. thi

will the forecast be as we bring in those fireworks and the man who has the answers, meteorologist darren peck. >> one of the best ways to answer that, ryan, is to go to the front lines where this batch of low clouds would be moving into the bay. this is the camera on top of sutro tower, watching the last hour and a half. watch the increase here as these midlevel clouds start to increase and eventually here on the last frame, you're going to see they pretty much just kind of take over and the camera's going to go gray for a moment. this camera is at about 1,500 feet. so that happens to be right about the same elevation most of the big fireworks would go off, right about 1,500 feet. so here's the forecast for three of the bigger shows across the bay. the one at pier 39 that so many people are coming into the city for, it's going to be a close call. the cloud base by then will probably be down to about a thousand feet at 9:00 when the show starts so some of the fireworks will probably be going into the clouds but if you're inland, away from the water, you are a go. concord, your show out at diab
