his name is darren vann. he's 43 years old and he's charged in the death of 19-year-old afrikka hardy, found dead friday at a motel 6 in hammond, indiana. police say they tracked vann through text messages and upon his arrest he led police to six other bodies in the area. according to the "chicago sun times," they happened in just the last two years. vann said he is, quote, basking in the glory, reliving everything, seeing photos of the victims, both dead and alive. mr. vann has led police to believe there could be other victims as well. some cases actually dating perhaps as far back as 20 years. our poppy harlow is on the story and joins me on the phone from hammond, indiana. poppy, you've been out with the police and their searches, they're using cadaver dogs. tell me what you've seen and what they're finding, if anything. >> reporter: we spent about an hour with the gary, indiana, police. they've been going house to house in this specific neighborhood which is right in the same area where a number of those

darren vann. >> yes. looks to me like it would not be a strategy because most lawyers would tell somebody who's produced in court that what are called pedigree questions, that is your name, address and a little bit about your background has to be answered in court. you don't have a fifth amendment right to remain silent with respect to that. and the cases that i've seen in the past where a suspect or even a witness refuses to answer a judge in court sometimes indicates mental illness, sometimes it's deliberate contempt of court but it almost always goes badly. he winds up locked up for a longer period of time than they would normally be locked up. if it's a strategy, it's not a good one. >> could the judge lock him up forever if he doesn't answer her questions? >> i think that's an exaggeration. he could be held in contempt of court and he could be locked up for a period of time but the judge could not lock him up forever. that would not occur. >> understood. paul callan, thanks so much and thanks for ans
