former mreszant grove principal who hired darron burks joins me now. i am so sorry for your loss, no words can bring him back. tell us about your friend. >> darron burks is an individual i've known over 25 years and an individual that as soon as he began to get out of college, i hired him as his first job as a math teacher. this individual from day one had an energy and spirit that was beyond reproach. his ability to merge and glue people together was obvious. he could communicate to different individuals, adults or children. he was dependable, shined light, glue to our school family for over 18 or 19 years and he will be missed. never released from our family because we have memories that we will live forward and have shared in all of these years, he will be with us. >> todd: beautiful there, sir. what was he like as a math teacher? how did students respond to him? >> representation of what you have done doesn't always show up when you are living in life, but all the calls the students have made to staff, to make comments to let us know how much he wa

darron burks left his job as a math teacher coach to serve his community.s murdered less than a year on a job. he was sitting in his marked patrol car last thursday when the shooter went up to him and pulled out a handgun and killed him. the dallas police chief says this was a targeted execution. take a look at this dashcam footage. he led them on a chase and stopped, the officers yelling at him to drop the gun. he doesn't listen and then he is shot and killed. the president of the dallas police chief association tells us this is a perfect example of why so many people just don't want to become officers anymore, and nationwide staffing shortages are devastating our police forces. >> these young officers, when they are arriving to those scenes, they are responding to scenes of war. that is not normal. the days of the simple 911 calls, loud music, those days are gone. we are responding to acts of war. >> and back here, a growing memorial for officer burks with dozens of flowers and balloons in honor of him. his funeral is going to be held tomorrow, john. >> j
