our reporter datshiane navanayagam went to meet one of the victims. terri, not her real name, is afraid to speak in case she is identified by those who brought her here. terri was recruited by an agency on a legitimate work visa and told she'd be earning £29,000 a year as a care assistant. but when she arrived she was forced to work up to 20 hours a day unpaid. when terry complained to her employer he called her ungrateful and threatened to have her deported. the other carers mentioned before i met him he has got political ties, that makes him very dangerous where we come from in our part of the world, because a man with political ties, you don't want to go against someone like that. terrified, terri continued to work. eventually she was paid, but it worked out at less than £2 an hour. unable to afford somewhere for her children to live, they were forced to stay on the streets. that's when social services were called. she is now going through the government's national referral mechanism which identifies and supports victims of modern day slavery. last
