darren daulton lost his battle with brain cancer at the age of 55. the loss is a tough hit in the philadelphia community. now former players are sharing memories of their legendary teammate. john clark joins us with that story. >> you said it. darren daulton one of the most beloved philly athletes ever and one of the best leaders this city has seen. the phillies, city and fans remembered him today. dutch passed away on the same date, august 6, that he was inducted into the phillies wall of fame seven years ago. >> it's almost like i can no longer call you fans. we have been through too much together so i will start calling you family. >> darren daulton was a 25th round draft pick. he built himself into an all star catcher. the unquestioned leader of the '93 phillies, the team that captured phillies hearts. >> he was the glue that kept a bunch of misfits together in '93. >> dutch was a man's man. macho on the field but he would hug and kiss you when he saw you. he became brothers with many of his teammates. >> he changed my life. he saved my life. i w

darren daulton fought hard for the phillies on the diamond.brain cancer off it. the beloved phillies catcher died last night. dalton was both the heart and soul of the phillies for 14 and a half seasons. he was the leader of the 1993 phillies team that won the national league pennant. while dalton was one himself he often kept the guys in check when they got out of line. he's remembered as a pillar of the game and as a giant of a man who fought until the very end. >> it didn't break his spirit. he was that fighter. he never gave up. it just took him. i know dutch. but i mean he was -- he was that guy. he fought. >> from the day i met him, you know, he was just an awesome guy to know and to play with. said in a statement earlier that he was the glue that kept a bunch of misfits together in 93 and we had a special year. >> growing up he challengeed a fan before you ever get here. if you want to get the respect of philadelphia fans just be a maximum effort player in whatever sport you are. that group had a a lot of max effort players and darren p
