ali >> good morning dave.ay is ultimately about california's ballot initiative process and whether voters have the right to determine how certain types of workers, in this case, gig workers, are compensated. today in san francisco, the california supreme court will hear arguments on a challenge to proposition 22. it was passed in november 2020 by nearly 60% of california voters. now, what it did was classify rideshare and delivery drivers for companies like uber, lyft, doordash and instacart as independent contractors, not employees. prop 22 was backed and funded by those companies. now, as contractors, drivers are supposed to have more flexibility with their work schedules, but it also means they're not legally entitled to things like minimum wage, overtime or sick leave. some rideshare drivers and state union representatives are now challenging the legality of prop 22, on the grounds that they argue that some worker rights, like making sure people are paid a minimum wage, should be determined by state law re
