cbs 2's dave carlin has the story new at 5:30. >> reporter: the suspect is a snappy dresser featured in surveillance video that's being passed around washington heights with urgency. police say this man trespassed stalked and attacked a 33-year- old woman who lives in the building on west 172nd street at st. nicholas avenue. >> made me worried and angry. >> reporter: it was around 1 a.m. on saturday, the woman got into her building's elevator and the man followed her right in. the woman told investigators the man just stood here and didn't press an elevator button which she considered odd. she did for floor 6 where her apartment is. they made it to the top floor and outside her apartment door the man grabbed her. investigators say the suspect tried to wrestle her to the floor and sexually assault her. but she fought back successfully furnishing him away. she ran into her apartment locked the door and left the building. >> i'm glad she is okay and hope he gets caught soon. >> reporter: the victim didn't need medical attention. neighbors now say no tailgating through the lobby doors al

live at bryant park, dave carlin, cbs 2 news. >>> gunfire erupts in a brooklyn neighborhood. there was a shootout between police and an armed suspect. it left multiple streets riddled with dozens of bullets and the alleged suspect in the hospital. cbs 2's ilana gold has new details. >> reporter: investigators say the shootings happened at three different locations within about a mile of each other. we just learned that 70 shots were fired. most were right here along broadway where police shot and injured a 27-year-old man. the intersection of broadway and jefferson avenues riddles with dozens of bullets. they pierce through the windows of a laundromat along with a truck and police cruiser just after 1 a.m. this morning. this afternoon nypd commissioner bill bratton surveyed the damage at the scene. >> really crazy. i actually was looking at the window and i could see the cops shooting across the street. >> reporter: van cook woke up to the sound of gun right outside his bedroom window. and you can hear it on the this nearby surveillance video. sources say four police officers

in the kensington section of brooklyn, dave carlin, cbs 2 news. >>> a suspect trying to outrun police leaves a trail of damage and destruction through two long island towns. cbs 2's janelle burrell has more on the botched getaway. >> reporter: jonathan moore is in police custody after an overnight chase spanning two long island towns 7 miles and a whole lot of damage in between. >> either he was stoned or drunk. i have no idea. but he was running hard. >> reporter: greg ross one of the many victims in this ordeal that police say began with a three-car crash around midnight near exit 62 off the long island expressway in holtsville. he crashed his vehicle into two other cars and ran. a man at the scene started chasing moore across the service road and then got hit himself by a van and injured. meanwhile they say moore had made his way here to a company where he jumped the fence hopped into a tractor-trailer, plowed through the gate and kept going. you can see part of the broken fence. one of the company managers tells me because they have they have this barbed wire security fence they o
