i'm dave clark. >>> claudine wong is in the shopping center where two of the victims worked in that killing spree. >> reporter: in the last couple of minutes someone dropped off some flowers for -- flowers for cindy tran. on the door, there is a sign up that says the salon will be closed for the week. coworkers are having a difficult time through all of this. they've seen this all unfold. we're learning some talked to her in the moments of before she was killed. the salon owner called her the night she was killed because police had been by asking her about the killing of ricardo sales. he was killed in tran's home. he and his son rented rooms there. now according to "the times" the owner called her because he didn't want her to come in until that issue was settled. but when she picked up her cell phone, he was so upset, he couldn't understand her. he handed the phone to a coworker. she was yelling and then heard sirens. and then there was silence. a short time later, jesse borhi was killed by police.

i'm dave clark. >> i'm tortie campbell. >>> the u.s. coast guard begins to search the waters off marin county. it's in response to a frantic may day call. claudine wong has an update. >> good morning. i'm waiting for the coast guard to get back to me. we know yesterday, they spanned this area, from here, south to angel island. they are looking for the distressed caller. the problem is they don't know who or what they are looking for. all they know is a female caller called in a may day shortly before 10:00 last night. there was very little information. here's what the coast guard said this morning about that call. >> it was a woman calling, i have a may day. listen to me. listen to me. i have a may day. the coast guard of san francisco was able to reestablish communication with the woman. they never heard back from her. >> reporter: they also put out a call to other vessels for any type of distressed voters. they did send two vessels out on the water to search the waters for any sign of a distressed voter -- boater and that came up empt

i'm dave clark. >> i'm tori campbell. it's tuesday, developing news in san jose. part of almaden expressway is closed due to a firey crash that killed one teenager and injured another one. ktvu's kraig debro has more information on why the driver will face charges. good morning, kraig. >> reporter: good morning, two teenagers are involved in this crash. police say both are 18 and both are from san jose. it happened at the intersection of o'grady and alban expressway. you can see a lot of debris out here in the daylight. it starts at the intersection of almadan. police say they got a call around 3:00 a.m. about this crash. the driver of the ford 2001 explorer lost control and hit a light pole and a tree. the vehicle burst into flames. the fire department responded to put out the flames. the driver was able to get out out but the passenger was not. the man was pronounced dead at the scene. police then tracked down the driver. >> i did see the police were looking for possible other persons that abandoned the wreck. >> reporter: police say the investigation will seep

i'm dave clark. >> i'm tori campbell about. it is thursday, senate 9th. a fight outside an oakland home. we have more from the open police station. >> the woman remains in critical condition this morning. she opened her door last night and was shot three times. they don't believe -- police don't believe she was the intended target. we're live. we're waiting for an update. we know that a fight in front of this woman's house, involving someone who lived there may have led to the woman opening that door and being shot. about an hour ago, we drove to the house where she was shot and spoke to a man who lives across the street. he told us he heard 30 shots from what he thought was an assault rifle. and says he hit the ground immediately. it was around 10:30 last night in the 1200 block of 87th avenue. after getting up and making his way outside, he saw family members running out of that house, screaming, they shot mama. police are not releasing any information about the woman. but the neighbor told us, he thought she was in her 50s, living with her large family
