. >>> i'm dave warren.ew storms we're keeping an eye on, impacting the national weather here, first in the northwest, the spin is an area of low-pressure that brought with it rain and snow to the higher elevations right over washington and oregon. but it has cleared out, and we're starting to see a few breaks in the clouds there. not a lot of snow, maybe just a few inches of snow coming down, so not a warning, but a fairly heavy ban of snow is producing that warning. here it is on the radar plus the clouds, right through nebraska, south dakota, and mp mn. a closer view shows this darker blue color indicating heavy bans of snow. in that is giving us about one inch an hour with that accumulation. cold air spill in place with record lows this morning across the northeast, philadelphia just barely above freezing. new york 34, albany 40, still that litter cold wind chill. the storm producing the snow is right over the midwest there and it will have the potential for severe weather, not where the snow is coming d

. ♪ >>> i'm dave warren. more problems out in the northwest.in and snow over washington and oregon. there are a number of advisories in effect. ve have a flash flood advisory. winter weather advisories there are the purple, so snow and winter storm warnings coming to parts of the northwest. southeast as the intense line of thunderstorms move through louisiana. the potential for more severe weather today, the area right over east texas, louisiana, arkansas, and eastern oklahoma. storms will develop and they do have the potential to be receive veer. it's all with this area of low-pressure. one storm is moving out. that brought up warm air and rain. this will impact much of the eastern united states for the next 48 hours. the problem is it will not be all rain. high-pressure to the north keeps the cold air in place. so we get the severe weather today, and tomorrow it will slowly work its way up the coast and keeping the cold air in place, there comes that rain changing to snow. significant snowfall here, warm with rain to the south and east of thi

. ♪ >>> i'm dave warren.ew storms that we're talking about affecting the national forecast here. first off in the northwest a lot of rain coming in to washington and oregon right over the area dealing with that mud slide and more rain could lead to some flash flooding as that mad slide, the river that dammed up would see some flooding. there is that flood warning in effect, along with a flash flood watch right over the same area. inlet a bit, more weather. southeast dealing with severe weather now. this squall line is of the gulf coast now, but gusty wind and threats are the problem now. s now this is the storm that impacted the mid-atlantic and the northeast, really over the entire weekend. you see it's there now with moisture coming up from the gulf first. and here comes the threat later today and this evening. a line developing with some strong isolated severe storms possible. now that's the forecast today. tomorrow things get interesting with this high-pressure over the great lakes. that will keep the col

. ♪ >>> i'm dave warren, watching the storm here just off of the east coast.powerful with quite a bit of snow here right along the coast. far enough off of the coast where not a lot of snow is impacting the coast. now these bands of heavy snow could produce a lot of snow plus that wind, creating blizzard conditions, and wind gusts. blizzard warnings are in effect for that reason, but not much of the advisory extents to the west. 34 in philadelphia, 21 pittsburgh, and cleveland, ohio at 22 degrees. but the wind gusts is creating that blowing and drifting snow. here is a wide look at this storm. huge here, where it really intensifies as it begins to move to the northeast. these lines of equal pressure packed close together because that pressure is so low, we have high-pressure coming in from the west. the storm will clear out, the snow ends by tonight. things are pretty quiet here along the east coast by wednesday and thursday, but by thrust night the next storm approaches. it brings up a lot of warm air, though. only a brief shot of cold air here across the nor

. >> meteorologist: i'm meteorologist dave warren snow winding down across washington, d.c. this is the radar picture showing that heavy snow clearing out, breaking up a little bit. not quite done but still a little light snow coming down with mixed air in virginia and north carolina. more rain to the south with the second wave of low pressure moving along in the same area. you can see that area of rain is coming down with temperatures right around 33 degrees but farther north we could see sleet, ice or light snow over the next few hours. more rain of course the across t with severe weather in parts of florida. this line of storms has a history of producing gusting, damaging winds. and this area of rain pushing off to the east, high pressures in the middle, and another storm coming on the west coast will impact the area late this week. differently it will bring up warmer air. high pressure will keep this rain to the south. this will be tuesday and wednesday. maybe a little ice here but not the extent of the snow that we saw this morning. it will keep a cool air in place so t

. >> i'm dave warren. active weather across the country.wo big storms, one over the northern plains and one over the east coast. moving out, is high pressure, this storm will be clearing out, ending briefly as a period of rain or snow as the cold air comes behind this. a little break but then this storm this one, heavy snow and blizzard conditions over the northern place -- plains. high pressure will build in before this is done. this is about done but they will start to lessen here a little bit as the rain clears out. cold air coming on the western side, that's where the gusty winds, we're seeing blizzard conditions in north and south dakota. the storm will track to the north, the snow will push well up into canada. for now, the heaviest snow is in north and south dakota. there's the break with flood warnings still in effect, even winter weather advisories, right along the coast of maine. here is that heavy snow and into the south it's rain even severe weather, but blizzard warning, dark red, combined with gusty wind 40 to 50 miles an hour

. >>> i'm dave warren more cold air coming down around the great lakes so the ice will stay around tomorrowback to this area of low-pressure bringing more cold air in. warm air will try to push up from the north that could make it as far as pennsylvania, ohio, illinois, right up to about chicago. that will be the boundary between this warm and cold air. you can see the temperatures climbing a bit. nice and warm for one day because look at what happens to these temperatures from saturday to sunday. we do not see the warm up, you have cold air coming in right around this contrast of warm and cold air. that's western tennessee and western kentucky. the warm air will try to work its way north, but high-pressure keeping the cold air in place. this is a problem because the warm air does make it north but it's above the surface. so now you are getting snowmelting. st. patrick's day, we'll watch how this works together to determine how large this freezing precipitation area is. the storm intensifies off of the coast. more warm air comes in with the cold air in place. the storm shifts a little bit a

. >> are credit i'm -- i'm meteorologist dave warren. really best phi east o -- best y east of the rockies. snow in the higher elevations. this is video that has come in. lot of flooding problems with cars submerged in washington, oregon, areas hit hard, daily records 2 to 3 inches of rain in a 24 hour period. too much rain in a quick period of time. the higher elevations seeing that as snow. all of this moisture getting pulled in, the storm in the pacific and another in the gulf of alaska. notice how the clouds are starting to bow out a bit. high pressure intensifying over the rockies and it will really intensify east of the rockies as the air goes down east of the rockies. this will happen tuesday to wednesday. by wednesday it really best certifies, especially by chicago, here is heavy snow where the air is cold enough, northern parts of the storm. the temperatures could soar into the 50s and 60s. here is what's happening warm air up the mid atlantic coast. the front will have a tough time making it as far as new york. difference betwe

. ♪ >>> i'm meteorologist dave warren. think will be impacted by a big storm developing now here. it is across the southern plains. fire weather dangers here today with that wind and the dry air. tomorrow and thursday we have winter storm warnings and winter weather advisories in effect really pushing into new york and new england. heavy snow expected here. developing here just east of the rockies over wyoming, a little bit of snow and rain there, a lot of moisture will be pulled up over the next 24 hours. you can see this being predicted by the forecast here. and by tomorrow morning it intensifies over the midwest. there is heavy snow pushing through the midwest. very cold temperatures and then a quick drop in temperatures behind the cold front. you'll feel the winter weather return in the form of a blustery wind here. 60s close to 70 here just ahead of this cold front. by wednesday evening and thursday morning, the cold air comes in behind this, so you'll see a big drop in temperatures. temperatures in the 70s, and dropp

. >> i'm meteorologist, dave warren. another coastal storm, and heavy rain across the southeast.t will be moving north. and high pressure is keeping cold air in place though. and that will be the problem because you get the rainfalling into the air, which is below freezing, and that will lead to sleet and freezing rain. big area here in north carolina and west virginia. this is the heavy rain falling in the air, which is below freezing, high pressure keeping that cold air in place. eventual, the temperatures will climb barely above freezing but we still have the rain coming down, and the wind will be out of the northeast with the nor' easter here, and this will be from delaware to new jersey and all the way up to new york and new england. here comes the rain. the area of this freezing rain will be north carolina, virginia, and overnight and thursday, you'll be waking up to that, and on friday, eventually climbing above freezing, but not until 1:00. this is icing and you'll get the accumulation in north carolina and virginia. another shot of cold air coming into the plains in chic

. ♪ >>> i'm dave warren. big changes here in the eastern united states as a storm takes shape. area of low pressure intensifies and developing across the mideast. cold air, a lot of snow, to the south it is rain and even severe weather. this line developing as this front moves through. temperatures in the 60s and 70s and then quickly drop. here is the heavy snow. inches of snow with winter storm warnings and blizzard warnings in effect. now this is where it is now this afternoon. severe storms are possible in this area. the storm will lift out and be followed by very cold wind chills a dramatic drop in temperature is expected. it moves through pennsylvania. by 9:00, 10:00, it is pubbing through the cities along i-95. there could be the possible that the temperatures drop so quickly that you could get a quick freeze. it should dry out just to the south. by tomorrow morning it is off the coast intensifying. wind chills is what it feels like. 10 to 20 below throughout this area. dry but much colder by the end of the week. del. >> dave thank you very much. and thank you for watchin

. ♪ >>> i'm meteorologist dave warren problems in the southeast again.m in florida will intensify in north and south carolina. a lot of rain with this storm. no snow expected, but there will be some mix when you get the rain falling into the cold air which is held in place with this high-pressure to the north. so sleet and freezing rain, and then it warms up. we're just getting a lot of rain here, but temperatures barely above the freezing mark. so a cold raw rainy day. there is the cold air, field temperatures trying to return here to the midwest, but not for long, brief -- or another shot of cold arctic air saturday and sunday. focusing on this area getting the freezing rain. north carolina and virginia, that's by 3:00 in the morning. so by the time you wake up it could be a coating of ice in this area. it will switch over to rain but the temperatures just barely above freezing. here is this old arctic air. 29 in chicago, not even above 30, warm weather trues to return in texas, oklahoma, and kansas. there is another storm across the northwest. we're g

dave warren now here with all the news on the weather. dave, first day of spring people are celebrateling. the temperatures go up a few points. market is up. it would be nice. >> some areas will not feel like it is the start of spring. it actually means the sun passes right over the equator, the tilt of the earth's action is as it moves around the sun. it goes higher and higher in the sun. you will notice that the next few days. may not notice the temperatures warming up. 12:507 eastern daylight time it will be colder here across the great lakes. but warmer temperatures expected in the southeast and going up in the north and south dakota. warming a bit today. it is the great lakes that is a concern here. there is a storm passing overhead. there is some snow in the forecast. winter storm warnings. had some rain and mild temperatures here across the r east yesterday. but that was a front that moved through, thanks to this area of low pressure. wind behind the gusting out of the northwest, that will bring in some colder temperatures. you see

. >> i'm meteorologist, dave warren with the national forecast. heavy snow and wind coming out in the plains, with another shot of cold air pushing south. blizzard warnings and winter storm warnings in effect, because of this area of snow. from minnesota, it will push east over new england. but the rain-snowline to the north with the temperatures trying to warm up. it's moving in to the south. and we're seeing a brief warmup before the cold front returns, and we see the arctic air. even as far north as chicago, it will try to push up to pennsylvania and be new england. there's the cold air behind it, and nothing really affecting southern california as the drought continues. those storms in the forecast there. looking at the computer forecast, snow over the great lakes, very heavy snow there, and into new york and new england, the storm track keeps the snow along the u.s.-canadian border and passing with a shower. this will be followed by cold arctic air, and the wind picks up and high pressure picks up, so no more snow, but the temperatures are dr

. >> i'm meteorologist, dave warren, today, eastern daylight time. the sun right over the equator, and that is the start of spring. the equinox happens today, 12:57. and this is what it looks like with the temperatures, till cool with the snow coming down across the great lakes. it's not like we flip a switch and everything changes. it will take awhile with the weather pattern. but warmer weather in the south and the southern plains and the southwest, average temperatures working their way up to the dakotas. not much in the weather map except for this storm in the northeast. there's that snow across the great lakes, and you'll notice that the rain pushes out. a lot of rain yesterday. and here's the front that came through. now that it has pushed off the coast, maybe a light shower is possible, but you'll notice that the wind is picking up and the temperatures getting a bit colder. that's all happening this afternoon. 50 right now in philadelphia. but here's the cold air. cleveland and pittsburgh, move east. and it will be colder in the next few days.

. >>> i'm meteorologist dave warren. when you think things are done across the mid-atlantic states in the southeast, rain is coming back. as the storm moves out. taking a lot of the ice and sleet. now you are getting the wind coming in off the ocean. we will see the wind pick-up and the rain hang around. where it is cold enough could see the icing. temperatures are just above the freezing mark. winter weather sidesry still in effect. you could see additional ice accumulates with the temperature down right about freezing and you get the rain falling into this cold air. another storm here across the northern plains. look what happens as this band of snow begins to intensify. watching this closely because the band will continue to have snow over the same area, one inch per hour or more. so additional snowfall from nebraska through south dakota and right through minnesota all the way through the great lakes. this is the next storm, which will impact the temperatures across the southeast and mid-atlantic for the start of spri

meteorologist dave warren is here with more on the storm and what is coming in the next couple of days. >> meteorologist: wait until you see the spring forecast. just a few days ahead. it will feel like spring. it doesn't look like spring now. this is from this morning. all of this snow is begin to go clear out and taper off. 13.5 inches in parts of west virginia. arlington and washington, 8 inches. seven inches or less further north you go. here is the mix that is coming down. it could freeze before it hits because the temperatures in this area still easy. so a little further south and low pressure approaching. it's this line of strong storms that is a problem now. here is an isolated cell of storms moving through florida. they have the potential to start to spin. there is flood warnings in affect across the state of florida as this moves through. now we'll talk about what happens over the next few days. the storm off the coast, high pressure to the north and it keeps the cold air in place. this is tuesday at 10:00. another storm approaching the west will bring up the warm air. this i

dave warren is tracking this system. well, it's been beautiful the last couple of days. >> meteorologist: it sure has. it's not just some areas, it's a huge area that will see this huge temperature drop. there is a front moving through. 68 down to 38. that's the temperature drop. this front is pushing east right through western virginia and north carolina and into virginia. these storms are pushing east damaging wind as they move through, and they're racing. here is the weather system responsible for this. you have the warm air to the south and there is the snow all the way up to new england. now there is the heavy snow. the strong storms we showed you on the radar. they're pushing through from west to east. once this clears out over the next 12 hours you see the wind pick up. that direction changes and that's that cold wind coming in. that pushes the temperatures down maybe as quickly as 24 hours. the storms will track through pennsylvania. it's warmer as the temperatures climb read of this low, but behind it can could

. >>> meteorologist dave warren joins us with a look of how the water currents and the depth of the gulf of thailand could affect the search for this plane. >> they change from month to month in this part of the area, but the original flight path going from kuala lumpur to are china, vary, water occurrence here in the south china sea and into the gulf of thailand there, the current actually splits. that's what's making it difficult. some current go to the south, other circulate in the gulf of thailand. that's the issue there as the currents continue to spin around. the actual weather, that northeast wind is really starting to increase here over the next few days, has been increasing today and what that means along with that different current is you'll have the building seas in this area. the waves will continue to increase. so all of these are factors going into the search. of course the current is something that they're looking at plus the increased seas here we'll continue to monitor that over the next 24 hours. >> all right dave thank you. this mystery is e erily similar to what happe
