david: ok. so when you ask people to do meetings, do they say, "no," or is it hard to get a meeting with investors or not that hard? jay: the answer is no and i'm grateful for that. it is largely because i believe that what kim and i are building is unlike anything else being built in this space. it is a very intentional combination of two complementary skill sets that other firms do not have. david: right now, the private equity world, it's tough to get financing for deals and so forth. are you going to be doing buyouts that require financing or growth capital deals, which don't need as much or any? jay: our strategy is consistent with what i have done in the past, which was unreliant on leverage. in the consumer growth world it's about great execution on value creation plans, not about the amount of leverage that will drive a few basis point of increment of return. in some instances, when the company is can use it, we will use a little bit, but it's about getting behind the right ideas. david:

david: ok.when you go into fomc meeting, the first day, do you pretty much know where you would like to come out at the end of the second day or do you listen to everybody and then make up your mind? chair powell: the way it works is, you know, i talk to the other 18 participants regularly, and i talk to all of them at least once in the 10 days before the meeting. i'm thinking about this 3 or four weeks before the meeting. what should we want to achieve? what data do we need to see? how do we want to change our communications? all those things. i talk to people and i try to put together an answer that has broad support on the committee, and so when we go into the committee on tuesday morning, you know, i'm confident, usually, that i know where this is going to go. you know, things happen. we get data during the meetings sometimes, events happen, but largely you go in knowing what the likely outcome is. that is the design of it. david: so a lot of people in washington, at government agencies, are

david: it worked out. kim: it worked out, it made sense. david: you've been exposed to private equity for a little bit of time. you've met investors here and around the world and so forth. what is your view of the private equity investment community? the most honest people you have ever met? kim: very, very nice people.
