david muir will have more on the situation tonight on "world news" after "action news." >>> a little boy was critically injured when he was struck by a car in camden this afternoon. right now that young victim is being treated at cooper university hospital. that's where "action news" reporter, annie mccormick joins us live with the update. >> reporter: walter we are waiting to find out what type of injuries he did sustain. what we do know a 4-year-old boy remains here at cooper hospital listed in critical condition. this is video of the vehicle that police say did strike the boy. but the driver did stop and police do believe the young boy ran out into the street from between two parked cars. this all happened in the 1600 block of pine street in camden around 1:00 p.m. i'm told there was a fun day for kids in the neighborhood near the elementary school, but it is not clear at this time if the victim was at the event. back here live, police say the driver did stop. it's still an on going investigation, but police do tell me at this point it does not appear the driver will face any charges.

boy was dispatched to general hospital. when he arrived he was believed to be in critical but stable condition. sometime in the afternoon, captain david lazar decided he'd visit the family. he went to the hospital, went into the reception area and learned that the family had just left and he quickly went back out to the parking lot and was able to locate the family in the vehicle. he approached the family and introduced himself just to check on the boy and see if there was anything he could offer and that's when the family advised him that the little boy had passed of several hours of surgery. as i mentioned the family was staying over in alameda and so captain lazar took it upon himself to arrange that they would be able to stay in san francisco and he was able to get them lodging at the jw marriott in union square and they donated two rooms to the family because one of the senior family members was also flying in. captain lazar also took care of their other needs and they were able to provide meals to the family and any other assistance they needed. the family drove back home to utah on saturday. we haven't had communication with th
