[applause] supervisor campos: thank you very much. it is truly an honor to be here. i am here in my capacity not only as a supervisor but also as the chair of the county transportation authority. i want to acknowledge our vice- chair, supervisor scott wiener, who is in the audience. we work with the mta, and our responsibilities are many, but it includes long-term transportation planning for the city and county, something that requires the agency worked very closely with the mta. we are also the body that oversees the transportation sales tax for the city and county of san francisco, and i am very proud we have a very strong working relationship with the mta. i want to work knowledge our new director of transportation, ed reiskin, who has hit the ground running and really brought in a new wins. the fact is that for so many of us, muni is what makes it possible for us to live in the city, allows us to get to and from work, allows our kids to get to and from school. even though there are some issues that people have with the system, i t

and secondly, i wanted to thank supervisor david campos for really working so hard on the free muni issue, and what was passed at the mta was for low- income students, but i know tomorrow, this is how much follow-up needs to happen. he will be speaking, the programming and allegations committee for transportation in oakland regarding this topic, and i will be there as well as listening and offering my opinion to support his work, but i definitely want to thank supervisor campos, his staff, and all of the folks at mta the web been very helpful and working towards free muni. if we can take these small steps in this pilot program, for the low-income students, i am happy to participate and assist in any way that i can, and then one more comment, the ad hoc city college joint committee, we are working on figuring out which date we can meet, because, actually, as we meet quarterly, it falls on the third wednesday, which is wendy -- when the rules committee meets. our respective assistance to help us coordinate. i just wanted to let folks know. please stay tuned. the college district and the sch

[applause] >> >> thank you for the work you are doing to make sure we have the best transit system we can have. i want to echo my gratitude to all the partners, mta, city agencies, dpw, the bicycle coalition, the sunday street staff that has a unique ability to work closely with the diverse communities we have. when it sunday streets started, there was apprehension in some neighborhoods. we felt that in the mission i want to thank the residents and merchants gave this project time to unfold. you have seen a neighborhood has come together to embrace this project. i do think the mission is a perfect place to expand this concept. we are excited we will have this for the next three months. it is appropriate we are beginning the expanded pilot on the heels of cinco de mayo. open space is important in san francisco and the mission. you have the ability for diverse communities to gather and share their background, history, culture, food, and music. you can see we have so much to be proud of
