[laughter] >> you know why we have that title? because the book is about our government not the white house and not him personally. >> i do think there is a lot more going on than just one guy but let's follow up. now we have the basics down not complicated and a politician and a crook? you have known trump 30 years in june and do you think when you call him donald on tv that annoys him? >> absolutely does i assure you. >> on the other hand i was on a platform 11 months ago in san francisco with nancy pelosi and i called her nancy. >> recalls senators first names a lot then i find out later is not appropriate. >> here's what i think about that senators represent us as well as the supreme court they are our bosses we have temporarily given them power that they work for us we don't work for them. >> so you have known him for a very long time. were you surprised when he ran for president of united state

[applause] >> david cay johnston is our guest with a fixture over the years as an investigative journalist focusing on financial issues we just heard the panel session earlier today and other spent time suggesting this is a decade-long change in american society you got into that at the end it sounds more like a phenomenon? >> no. at the end of my current work t5 that he is a symptom of the diseases we allow our democracy to atrophy with voter participation rates 100 million people could have voted and did not people not paying attention with a philosophy that i follow in the book and my nonprofit news report d.c. report follows it is our government we own it to outsource the government to o other people if they start running the governmenter for you they will pick your pocket there was a trilogy of books about that but all the rules and laws nobody knew about so i wrote how washington and the state capital pick your pocket because people are notle paying attention. it is our government. we own it. act like owners. >> this is a complex society with a lot of personality driven entertainment

david cay johnston, pulitzer prize-winning writer has been all over this zpostory and it'st no attention. >> david, is that the ultimate hypocrisy? >> no, listen, as somebody who is passionate about this issue, i lost a brother-in-law to this issue, i do think that these drug pushers, you know, do deserve some type of punishment. and as harsh as possible. oftentimes, they're not responsible for the loss of one life, they're responsible for the loss of dozens of lives. and at some point, you have to say, when is enough enough? i think you have to send a message to these pushers that are targeting our children, our communities, that a as country, we've had enough of them targeting and preying on these victims. and we have to find a solution. like i said, my thing is, i've lost a brother-in-law. this is a very personal issue to me on this. and i don't think we can be harsh enough on these pushers. >> all right, thank you both p very much. of course, no matter where you fall on this shall, you have to look to mexico. you can kill and more people come in. money can do a lot. all right, thank
